Position Summary...

What you'll do...

Reporting to the Senior Director, International Strategic Sourcing, the position of Director, Data Analytics and Insights objectives are to lead the development and execution of a data strategy that aims to provide reporting and actionable insights to a variety of stakeholders. The position offers a unique experience within retail due to the high degree of interaction with International Market Leadership, supporting 24 International Markets to drive greater SG&A leverage, collaboration and sharing of best practice.

This position is responsible for the operation of all analytics and quantitative data within the Domestic Global Procurement and International Strategic Sourcing team, including the development of reporting tools, extracting insights from data, upskilling associates and more.

What you'll do

  • Tech Problem Formulation: Analyze and recommend solutions to business problems using analytics and automation techniques.
  • Data Source Identification: Identify and ensure the quality of business data sources required for analysis.
  • Data Strategy: Develop and apply data strategies to solve complex business problems.
  • Exploratory Data Analysis: Utilize relevant tools and techniques to analyze data and provide insights.
  • Data Quality Management: Implement and monitor data quality strategies to ensure data is fit for purpose.
  • Understanding Business Context: Develop business strategies and drive impactful initiatives with executive leaders.
  • Data Visualization: Create compelling visual representations of data to communicate insights effectively. Develop Partnerships: Lead community outreach initiatives and collaborate with stakeholders to achieve business goals.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the development of a data strategy that focuses on the increased adoption of data by sourcing teams across all of Walmart's International markets. Responsible also for translating this strategy into an achievable roadmap of tools, products, process improvements and more while also managing its effective delivery, navigating the various technology, legal, cybersecurity and other processes within Walmart.
  • Build a strong foundation for the delivery of the data strategy through product management of a new datalake, which will hold data from all internal and external procurement sources that are currently used and those on the roadmap to be used. This will involve requirements gathering, prioritization of data sources, navigating Walmart processes and more.
  • Assisting in the improvement of data literacy of sourcing associates through the development and presentation of training materials that specifically relate to Walmart data and the various sourcing processes the COE provides. Specifically, this would look at providing training on where sourcing data (both internal and third party) is stored, how they can access it and tools and techniques that can be used to uncover insights to improve how data is used throughout the sourcing process.
  • Identifying opportunities for efficiency improvements to sourcing processes, through the use of various tools including stakeholder interviews, data analytics, time-in-motion studies and others. Working with the Technology team to develop and implement solutions for these improvements using tools such as RPA.
  • Further developing relationships with sourcing associates, COE and ISM leads in each market to uncover and understand challenges they may be experiencing that hinder them from using data more widely throughout the 7 step, category strategy, pipeline development, SRM or other processes. Using this information to then inform the data roadmap with the express focus of further embedding data into our work.
  • Identify and develop use cases for advanced and predictive analytics, involving innovative thinking by taking multiple data sources to address a valuable business proposition. For example, utilizing commodity price forecasts with an understanding of key material inputs of an item to be sourced, to make a decision on whether the planned sourcing timeline should be brought forward or pushed back, based on whether the price forecasts show an increase or decrease.
  • Managing all aspects of data analytics tools that are developed under the roadmap, including scoping, timeline, resourcing, quality assurance, uptime and more. Tools developed include but are not limited to; visualization dashboards in PowerBI, automated reporting suites, total cost of ownership models and more.
  • Develop facilitation and presentation materials that are clear and effective to communicate objectives and their value proposition to cross functional stakeholders.
  • Be continuously looking at opportunities both in the third party market place and also internally within Walmart, to access new sources of data to supplement or benchmark existing work, or to expand into new areas.

  • You are proficient in programming languages like SQL and Python/R, Data processing and BI visualization tools (Dataiku, Tableau Prep, Tableau, Power BI, Figma).

  • You have experience working in a cross-functional environment, managing, and communicating with stakeholders from different domain areas.
  • You have rich experience in customer insights, analytics, or related areas.

Competencies

This position requires advanced experience in data analytics and visualization tools, including but not limited to - Advanced Microsoft Excel (complex formulas, VBA macros), Python (pandas, numpy and other statistics modules), SQL, Python (writing complex queries), PowerBI dashboard development, Figma.

Qualifications

  • 5-7 years' experience in business analytics
  • Technical expertise in data mining (SQL, Google BQ, Hadoop) and statistical analysis (R or similar)
  • Technical expertise in using data visualization (Tableau, Power BI, Looker, MS Excel) to derive powerful insights and facilitate tracking and measurement of KPIs
  • Experience in forecasting and statistical analysis
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Conducting written and verbal presentation to share insights and recommendations to audiences of varying levels of technical sophistication
  • Demonstrates curiosity and a growth mindset; fosters an environment that supports learning, innovation, and intelligent risk-taking; and exhibits resilience in the face of setbacks

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Business, Analytics, Statistics, or related field OR 2 years' experience in data analytics, project management, business, or relevant area

The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00-$220,000.00

Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
