What you'll do...
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Software Engineer 2 (Backend Engineer) to join our team. As a member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and improving our company's backend systems and applications. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to identify and prioritize project requirements, design and implement solutions, and ensure the highest level of quality and scalability.
About Team:
On the Item and Inventory Team, we ensure our customers get their orders when and where they want them, in a frictionless, predictable manner. What's more, we create reusable SaaS products and services that manage our catalog and power end-to-end inventory management, including replenishment, fulfillment, and transportation. With end-to-end inventory management, from replenishment and fulfillment to transportation, we give our drivers and partners the tools they need to get the right items to customers on time and in the right packaging.

What you'll do:
1. Develop and maintain software applications and systems that meet Walmart's business needs and customer expectations, while adhering to Walmart's software development life cycle (SDLC) and coding standards.
2. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers, designers, and QA engineers, to ensure that software solutions are delivered on time, within budget, and meet the required quality standards.
3. Writing clean, efficient, and well-documented code that adheres to Walmart's coding standards and best practices.
4. Participating in code reviews and providing constructive feedback to peers to ensure that software is reliable, scalable, and maintainable.
5. Troubleshooting and resolving software defects and issues, and collaborating with QA engineers to ensure that defects are properly identified and documented.
6. Collaborating with other engineers and stakeholders to design and implement software solutions that are scalable, secure, and align with Walmart's technology strategy.
What you'll bring:
1. Strong technical expertise: Proficiency in multiple programming languages, experience with software development methodologies, and a deep understanding of computer science fundamentals are essential for success in this role.
2. Problem-solving ability: The ability to analyze complex technical problems, identify root causes, and develop creative solutions is critical for resolving issues and improving software systems.
3. Collaboration and communication skills: Effective collaboration with cross-functional teams, including product managers, designers, and QA engineers, is crucial for delivering high-quality software solutions that meet business needs and customer expectations. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are necessary for articulating technical concepts and proposing solutions to stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, test, and deploy scalable and secure backend systems and applications using languages such as Java, Python
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and prioritize project requirements, and ensure that solutions are aligned with business objectives.
- Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to peers to ensure that all solutions are of the highest quality.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues in a timely and efficient manner.
- Stay up to date with industry trends and emerging technologies, and apply this knowledge to improve our company's backend systems and applications.
- Adhere to our company's code of conduct and ethical standards in all aspects of your work.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field.
- At least 2 years of experience in software development, with a focus on backend systems and applications.
- Strong proficiency in languages such as Java, Python
- Experience with backend development frameworks such as Spring,
- Familiarity with database design and development, including SQL and NoSQL databases.
- Experience with cloud computing platforms such as AWS and Azure.
- Strong understanding of software development methodologies such as Agile and Scrum.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field.
- Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes. Experience with big data technologies such as Hadoop and Spark.

The annual salary range for this position is $104,000.00-$202,000.00
Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
