You will be working on future-looking initiatives that are targeted at improving in-store customer experience for the 240+ million Walmart customers that shop at our stores. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be part of the Item Recognition team whose focus spans from data capture and ingestion to models' integration, optimization and serving. You will contribute to design, implement, and maintain the Item Recognition Service on cloud and on edge. In collaboration with amazing Computer Vision Engineers, you will deliver Item Recognition capability into sophisticated Computer Vision systems, seamlessly integrated into real-world production environments.
We're looking for a flexible engineer, who embraces adjusting to the appropriate tool for the job rather than having deep expertise in single systems.
What you'll do...
- Participate in designing and implementing complex components and systems including architectural design of large-scale cloud based application and ELT, relevant design documentation, and test planning and execution.
- Interface with other teams to navigate Walmart's vast data ecosystem to identify and incorporate the relevant data for our use case
- Learn constantly, dive into new areas with unfamiliar technologies, and embrace the ambiguity of new initiatives
- Establish self as an owner of a particular component, feature or system with expert end-to-end understanding
- Engineer pipelines that will power Item Recognition service.
- Built dashboards to monitor the health of our pipelines
- Serve as an advocate for engineering best practices and contribute to the engineering vision
- Write clean readable code, debug complex problems that span systems, prioritize ruthlessly and get things done with a high level of efficiency
- Improve code quality through writing unit tests, automation
- Review pull requests of teammates to make sure all software features developed are robust and crash free.
- Assist junior engineers with software problem resolution and development issues
What you'll bring...
- One of the following:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science and 4+ years of experience in software development, and with data structures/algorithms
- Master's degree/PHD in Engineering / Computer Science and 2 years of experience in software development, and with data structures/algorithm
- 2 years of experience building, testing, iterating and troubleshooting solutions to complex problems with a significant backend component
- 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.
- Programming and Technical Proficiency: solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software design principles.
- Proficiency in one or more programming language (Python, C++, SQL)
- Experience with technologies like Kubeflow, Kafka, Docker, gRPC, Kubernetes
- You are excited to learn or have familiarity with some of the following:
- stream and batch data processing
- Design core, backend software components
- Demonstrated ownership for development and design of modules/features in a product.
- You are flexible with languages and tools and are willing to learn whatever is necessary to get the job done.
- You are eager to learn with an appreciation for receiving feedback and embracing unexpected outcomes as learning opportunities
- You have a "leave it better than you found it" mentality, and are comfortable working with and improving on code you did not originally write
- You are a team player - that is, you're a nice person - see no ego.
- Highly motivated and independent; good at prioritization and results oriented.
You'll sweep us off our feet if....
- Background and hands-on experience with Cloud technologies (Google Cloud or AWS)
- Experience in one or more of the following areas: machine learning, computer vision.
- Strong work ethic, a sense of ownership and urgency
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Sunnyvale, California US-04396:The annual salary range for this position is $117,000.00-$234,000.00
Bentonville, Arkansas US-10735:The annual salary range for this position is $90,000.00-$180,000.00
Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
