About the Team

Come help us build a next generation Smart TV experience. We are a new team of industry veterans developing Vizio's OS using both off-the-shelf components and greenfield development. If you are excited to have an impact on a platform that is still maturing, we want you to work with us.

VIZIO is seeking a Director, OS, Software Engineering, for SmartCast TV and Sound Bar Technology to deliver the latest product line in support of TV and Soundbar. Now we need a brilliant Director of Software Engineer to join us and own the development of our Platform and Platform+ application features for TV and Soundbar through the full software development lifecycle.

What You Will Do

• Drive the execution and delivery of features by collaborating with many cross functional teams, Product, Hardware, Software and cloud engineering teams in the design of new innovate TV Product experience.
• Lead, coach, and mentor TV software engineering team, through product discovery that helps identify and break our product goals into technical projects.
• Empowering the engineers and dev leads in your teams to succeed by identify how to measure success, and mentor them on how to achieve those goals.
• Make critical decisions that attribute to the success of the product.
• Proactive in foreseeing issues and resolve it before it happens.
• Ensuring teams have clear priorities and adequate resources.
• Participating in architecture discussions and planning.
• Work closely with product and business teams to provide business KPI's and metrics.
• Participating in cross-functional coordination, planning, and reviews with leads from other engineering teams.
• Empowering the delivery team to self-organize.
• Be a multiplier and have a passion for team and team members' success.
• Providing technical guidance, career development, and mentoring to team members.
• Maintaining high morale and motivating the delivery team to go above and beyond.
• Vocally advocating for technical excellence and helping the teams make good decisions.
• Maintaining and fostering our culture by interviewing and hiring only the most qualified individuals.
• Occasionally contributing to development tasks such as coding and feature verifications to assist teams with release commitments, to gain an understanding of the deeply technical product as well as to keep your technical acumen sharp.
• Recruit, motivate, mentor, and lead the best engineering talent.
• Owning direct accountability for overall project/program delivery of your development teams and vendors ensuring the successful execution and delivery of projects that meet scope, timing, and cost goals.

About You

• Bachelor's Degree or greater in Computer Science, Electronics & Communications, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
• 15+ years of experience in architecture, design, prototyping, software development, code review and unit testing for embedded devices.
• Atleast 8+ years of hiring, managing and directing the software engineering team.
• Experience in executing and delivery of features by collaborating with other cross functional teams, product owners and architects.
• Experience with modern C, C++, C++11/C++14 or C++17 preferred.
• Very good experience in object-oriented programming and design skills, Javascript, HTML5, Linux OS, Make file, Python, Other development/build tools and scripting languages.
• Extensive experience with POSIX-based embedded systems, one or more of Android, Linux, QNX.
• Solid foundational knowledge of inter-process communications (IPC) and remote procedure calls (RPC). Proficiency with multiple communications paradigms: client-server, peer-to-peer, and publish/subscribe.
• Experience working with SoC vendors, ODMs and prototyping iteratively based on new technology.
• Proven ability to manage external vendors and app partners.
• Ability to multi-task and drive parallel projects with tight deadlines.
• Proven strong track record of shipping high-quality hardware and software at scale.
• Executive level communication skills, both verbal and written to both technical and non-technical team members.
• Ability to work cross-functionally and manage large teams.
• Works well under pressure and can manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
• Ability to adapt to changes quickly.
• You are a creative problem-solver who digs into root causes analytically, instead of relying on intuition.
• Ability to tell complex stories simply and adapt to questions, rather than just presenting information.
