Job Description

We are seeking a visionary and strategic Vice President of Data to lead our data initiatives and drive business growth through data-driven decision-making. This role is responsible for the product development and management of our data-driven capabilities and solutions for commercial clients including the vision, strategy, and product development to drive innovation and excellence for financial institutions and their business clients around the world, in alignment with Commercial Solutions and the Global Data Office. This role will manage data as a platform as well as a service to support all commercial payments and drive unique revenue flows. As a key member of the global product leadership team, the Vice President of Data plays a critical role in defining the strategy and future investments in data across all clients and product segments. You will have end-to-end global accountability and responsibility for developing a comprehensive suite of solutions that align to Visa’s overall data infrastructure strategy to deliver value and drive engagement for internal and external stakeholders.

The focus of the Data Platforms team is (1) determine the strategic applications and use cases of data within commercial payments, (2) develop high-value data-driven products which amplify our core product and software solutions in support of these use cases, and (3) develop strategic vision and roadmap to drive significant growth within commercial payments with data as the lever.

 

With data being the fuel that drives our future, our strategic and technological approaches to how we collect, manage and work with data will define Visa’s future growth prospects. This individual will be responsible for helping the head of global product, the VCS leadership team and Visa’s overall data leadership executives more broadly, to identify and create data solutions which solve significant pain points for commercial clients. The role will be highly visible across the organization and will have broad reach and impact both horizontally across the VCS organization, the broader Visa Product organization and globally across our Regions and Markets.

 

The successful candidate will have deep experience in payments and data-related businesses. The ideal candidate is extremely well organized, articulate, and agile in managing multiple threads of complex problems and programs. Equally importantly, the ideal candidate thrives while working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment that rewards clarity of organization and communication. He/she must have proven experience in developing and leading teams to commercialize innovative products that exceed client expectations. This role requires strategic leadership, innovation, collaboration, and creative problem-solving skills. He/she will bring prior experience in hands-on development of data insights, products and solutions. He/she is creative and hands-on, has a bias towards action and is able to inspire others with his/her vision.

 

The role reports to the SVP, Global Product for Visa Commercial Solutions with an indirect line to the SVP, Global Head of Data.

 

As a global product management leader here is a sample of deliverables and activities where you will be accountable:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement a comprehensive data strategy that aligns with Visa Commercial Solutions’s business goals and objectives.

  • Data Management: Oversee the collection, enrichment, storage, management, quality, and usage of data for commercial clients, in alignment with global data practices.

  • Analytics & Insights: Determine optimal approach across VCS for creating, maintaining and growing revenue opportunities associated with data analytics and insights which inform business strategies and decisions by our clients.

  • Data Governance: Enforce Visa data governance policies and practices to ensure data accuracy, privacy, and compliance with regulations.

  • Collaboration: Work closely across all product teams and with product engineering to understand strategic data needs and provide data-driven solutions. Contribute and help set and execute Visa’ overall data strategy supporting the Global Data Office.

  • Team Leadership: Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing data team.


Annual Operating Plan 

  • Build annual operating plan including financial forecast (TAM, SAM, SOM), Objective Key Results (OKRs), and coordinating with regional teams

Strategy and New Use Cases 

  • Lead the product strategy and portfolio management for data – determining where/how VCS can provide critical solutions for both small and large corporate customers

  • Ensure the product vision, strategy and roadmaps are aligned and well-articulated to customers, prospects, and partners, as well as internally within Visa. Deliver customer centric solutions that drive business growth

  • Working with regional and global sales/account executives to identify and enable use cases related to commercial applications with the goal of scaling

Product Development

  • Manage end-to-end product offerings including market needs, product vision which aligns with overall VCS strategy, roadmap creation and communication, release planning, and customer enablement

  • Develop and manage the product roadmap for data capabilities and solutions

Commercialization

  • Oversee go-to-market activities by closely working with program management, product managers, other product teams, finance, operations, legal, compliance, user experience and external partners as required

  • Manage product investment budgets, revenue and forecasts for profitable growth. Lead continuous product planning and portfolio management in support of global business strategy and operations

  • Evangelize the value and differentiation of the product platform within the payments ecosystem

Build a strong team culture

  • Develop and lead a team of talented Product Managers who combine strategic vision, business acumen, technical competence, and excellent collaboration skills to inspire innovation, demonstrate thought leadership and enable precision execution

 

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
• 12 or more years of work experience with a bachelor’s Degree or at least 10 years of experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters/ MBA/JD/MD) or at least 8 years of work experience with a PhD
• Leadership: Proven experience in leading and developing high-performing teams.
• Communication: Strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex data concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
• Strategic Thinking: Demonstrated ability to think strategically and drive data initiatives that align with business goals.
• Collaborate with Legal and Compliance: Work closely with legal and compliance teams to stay updated on regulatory changes and ensure the organization’s data practices remain compliant.
• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all data practices comply with financial regulations such as PCI-DSS, GDPR, CCPA, and other relevant standards.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in data management, analytics, or a related field, with at least 5 years in a senior people leadership role.
• Experience within commercial payments and product management
• Industry Experience: Extensive experience in the financial services or payments industry.
• Compliance Knowledge: In-depth understanding of financial regulatory requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:
• 15 or more years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD, PhD)
• Experienced product leader with a record of accomplishment for creating and developing new product capabilities from initial concept to industry leadership
• Proven ability to lead a range of initiatives end-to-end to meet client commitments with a customer centric orientation
• Demonstrated success in leading complex initiatives in a matrixed and distributed global organization
• Effective leadership and people management skills, with a focus on developing diverse, high performing teams and fostering an inclusive culture that is inquisitive and collaborative
• Natural collaborator, with excellent communication skills and strong executive presence. Must be self-motivated and comfortable with ambiguity, possessing the maturity and competence to influence across multiple levels and organizations including internal and external stakeholders
• Adept strategic thinker, problem solver and results-oriented pragmatist
• Demonstrated thought leadership and the aptitude to think creatively and identify new opportunities to innovate and differentiate with evidence of tangible business results
• Experience in managing relationships and cultivating deep partnerships with external vendors and partners

Additional Information

Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.

Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 25-30% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is 194,700 to 357,900 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity.
