The Opportunity: 

As a Sr. Engineering Manager, you will lead a world-class team of Engineers to define, drive and execute on a shared strategic vision for Payment Products. You will drive the development and integration efforts collaborating with technical partners to facilitate use cases, estimate project sizes, and manage timelines. You will lead a team of highly motivated and talented individuals that can collaborate with Project Managers, Product Owners, and SMEs across the company on high impact Payment Product initiatives. 

  • Responsible for the overall development life cycle of the solution 

  • Work with product partners in developing road maps to provide compelling capabilities that helps them succeed in their business goals 

  • Work closely with architects and senior engineers to develop the best technical design and approach for new product development 

  • Instill best practices for software development, and deliver high quality work on tight schedules 

  • Identify opportunities for further enhancements and refinements to standards and processes 

  • Mentor & motivate junior team members.  

  • Resolve team conflicts and keep team focused on the VISION.  

 

**We do not expect that any single candidate would fulfill all of these characteristics. For instance, we have exciting team members who are really focused on building scalable systems but didn’t work with payments technology or web applications before joining Visa.

This is a hybrid position. Expectation of days in office will be confirmed by your hiring manager.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • 8+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 5 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 2 years of work experience with a PhD, OR 11+ years of relevant work experience.


Preferred Qualifications :

  • 7+ years of experience in building large-scale data processing applications, at least 3 years of which were in leading engineering teams
  • Extensive experience in full stack projects, demonstrating proficiency in both front-end development, including frameworks like Angular, ReactJS or similar UI Framework, and back-end development using frameworks such as Spring Framework and Spring Boot
  • Strong design and coding skills with Java/J2EE and Web technologies like Spring Boot, Hibernate, JSON, String working experience Object-Oriented Design REST web services
  • Experience with DBMS, including RDBMS like MySQL and in-memory databases like Redis
  • Knowledge and working experience on Git/Stash, Jenkins, and Jira
  • Deep knowledge of Unix/Linux
  • Strong foundation in computer science, with strong competencies in data structures, algorithms and software design optimized for building highly distributed and parallelized systems
  • Strong knowledge of API design and development
  • Familiarity with AI concepts and tools, including GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, and Agentic AI
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes
  • Experience with highly distributed, scalable, concurrent, and low latency systems
  • Experience working in an Agile and Test-Driven Development environment
  • Proven experience delivering large scale, highly available production software
  • Strong technical vision
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a strong automation mindset
  • Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • A deep understanding of end-to-end software development in a team, and a track record of shipping software on time
  • Demonstrated intellectual and analytical rigor, strong attention to detail, team oriented, energetic, collaborative, diplomatic, and flexible style
  • Passionate about learning and applying new technologies and delivering working solution
  • Experience with containerization and cloud technologies are advantageous
  • Familiarity with AI concepts and tools, including GitHub Copilot for code development
  • Strategic thinker with good business acumen to orient software engineering to the business needs of internal and external clients.
  • Previous exposure to financial services is a plus, but not required.
