Job Description

The Senior Director, Accounting - North America is based in Foster City, CA, and will lead the accounting team for the North America (NA) business region. This position reports to the VP, NA Controller and will manage a team of 15 employees primarily located in Foster City, CA, Austin, TX and Bangalore, India. The role requires 3 days (Tues, Wed, Thurs) in Visa’s Foster City office.  NA business activity represents more than 50% of Visa’s global business.

Essential Functions:

  • Oversee the monthly close process for all NA business activity including the completeness and accuracy of all journal entries, accounting reconciliations and flux analysis.
  • Ensure the accurate recording of all NA revenue transactions.
  • Act as the subject matter expert for internally developed software ensuring a streamlined process with business partners and accurate tracking of capitalized costs.
  • Lead all NA accounting for leases, fixed assets, and intangibles.
  • Develop close relationships across NA business functions such as Technology, Product, Sponsorship, Marketing, Client Service to ensure transactions are appropriately recorded.
  • Partner with Visa’s Center of Excellence (COE) in Bangalore and other controllership regions to standardize work processes across the Company.
  • Instill a culture of continuous improvement in a methodical, pragmatic and expeditious manner including automation of manual processes and controls and standardization of accounting or business processes.  Use Lean Six Sigma methodologies to improve Controllership activities.
  • Ensure SOX compliance by adhering to internal control requirements, maintaining updated documentation and providing recommendations as appropriate.

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications
• 12 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 10 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters/MBA /JD/MD), or a minimum of 5 years of work experience with a PhD

Preferred Qualifications
• 15 or more years of experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or 12 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, or MD), PhD with 9+ years of experience in accounting
• Experience working at a publicly traded company and Public accounting or Big 4 preferred and a Certified Public Accountant (or equivalent)
• Solid knowledge of U.S. GAAP, specifically ASC 842 (Leases), ASC 606 (Revenue Recognition), and ASC 350-40 (Internal-Use Software)
• Track record of building and leading high performing teams
• Relevant Sarbanes Oxley experience
• Strong knowledge of Oracle, Ariba, Blackline
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills –effectively evaluates information/data to make decisions
• Strong team player – collaborates well with others to solve problems and actively incorporates input from various sources; has experience working with others on a global basis; applies knowledge to coach and mentor others
• Change oriented – actively generates process improvements; champions and drives change initiatives; confronts difficult circumstances in creative ways
• Proactive, a self-starter who is accountable and exhibits ownership of delegated tasks and projects
• Balances multiple and competing priorities and executes accordingly
• Excellent influencing, interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal) with all levels of an organization

Additional Information

Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.

Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is 181,800.00 to 284,050.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity. Visa has a comprehensive benefits package for which this position may be eligible that includes Medical, Dental, Vision, 401 (k), FSA/HSA, Life Insurance, Paid Time Off, and Wellness Program.
