Director- Software Engineering- Backend

Visa’s Technology Organization is a community of problem solvers and innovators reshaping the future of commerce.   We operate the world’s most sophisticated processing networks capable of handling more than 65k secure transactions a second across 80M merchants, 15k Financial Institutions, and billions of everyday people.   While working with us you’ll get to work on complex distributed systems and solve massive scale problems centered on new payment flows, business and data solutions, cyber security, and B2C platforms.

The Opportunity: 

We are seeking an experienced and visionary Director of Software Engineering to lead our dynamic team of developers based in Warsaw, Poland. This role is pivotal in driving the success of our software development initiatives and ensuring the delivery of high-quality products. The Director of Software Engineering will be a hands-on developer and collaborate with team members and colleagues across the globe to foster innovation and excellence in our software solutions.

The Work itself: 

  • Design code and systems that touch 40% of the world population while influencing Visa’s internal standards for scalability, security, and reusability 

  • Collaborate cross-functionally to create design artifacts and develop best-in-class software solutions for multiple Visa technical offerings 

  • Actively contribute to product quality improvements, value added service technology, and new business flows in diverse agile squads 

  • Develop robust and scalable products intended for a myriad of customers including end-user merchants, b2b, and business to government solutions 

  • Leverage innovative technologies to build the next generation of Payment Services, Transaction Platforms, Real-Time Payments, and Buy Now Pay Later Technology 

  • Opportunities to make a difference on a global or local scale through mentorship and continued learning opportunities 

 Essential Functions: 

  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of software developers, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.

  • Leverages back-end technical expertise on underlying systems/platforms across the organization to lead the development systematic improvements in processes to ensure the fulfillment of customer/business objectives.

  • Oversee the planning, execution, and successful delivery of software projects, ensuring they meet quality, scope, and timeline requirements.

  • Coordinate and collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders globally to ensure seamless integration and communication.

  • Technical Expertise: Provide technical guidance and support to the development team, ensuring best practices in software development and architecture.

  • Manage team resources effectively, including recruitment, performance evaluation, and professional development.

  • Quality Assurance: Ensure that all software solutions are robust, scalable, and meet the highest standards of quality and security.

 The Skills You Bring: 

  • Proven experience with highly available OLTP systems, experience in the Financial Services industry is highly desirable

  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, C++, or Python

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills

  • Expertise in programming languages including Java and C++

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills

  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong commitment to quality and customer satisfaction

  • Experience building and deploying modern services and web applications with quality and scalability 

  • Learner: Constant drive to learn new technologies such as Angular, React, Kubernetes, Docker, etc. 

  • Experience collaborating with Product, Test, Dev-ops, and Agile/Scrum teams 

**We do not expect that any single candidate would fulfill all of these characteristics. For instance, we have awesome team members who are really focused on building scalable systems but didn’t work with payments technology or web applications before joining Visa. 

 

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

10+ years of relevant work experience and a Bachelors degree, OR 13+ years of relevant work experience

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in Math, Science, Engineering, or Computer Science, Information Systems or related field AND minimum seven (7) years of experience in a directly related field.

OR

Bachelor's degree in Math, Science, Engineering, or Computer Science, Information Systems or related field AND minimum nine (9) years of experience in a directly related field.

OR

Minimum twelve (12) years of directly related experience.
