Job Description
As Counsel, you will be responsible for managing and supporting a diverse range of litigation and pre-litigation matters, as well as providing day-to-day legal advice to a variety of business units within the company. Litigation matters are likely to include class action lawsuits, breach of contract and other business disputes, and responding to third-party subpoenas and government requests. This role will report into Visa’s Global Litigation & Competition team.

Primary responsibilities will include
- Developing case strategy in partnership with business units and driving resolution of litigation disputes
- Managing outside counsel
- Reviewing and approving pleadings and motions, and attending court hearings and depositions
- Coordinating discovery, including collection and production of documents
- Providing legal advice to business functions on a wide variety of pre-litigation issues arising from business-as-usual activities
- Keeping Visa management and business units apprised of litigation developments and strategy
This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
- 8 or more years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor Degree or at least 5 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 2 years of work experience with a PhD
Preferred Qualifications
- 9 or more years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor Degree or 7 or more relevant years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 3 or more years of experience with a PhD
- Admitted to practice law in the United States and in good standing
- Preferred years’ experience: 4-7 years full-time employment in top-tier law firm or in-house environment
- Current member in good standing of a State Bar with the ability to become
- barred or a registered in-house counsel in the state where this role is located.
- Experience in all phases of litigation and experience with antitrust/competition law and e-discovery preferred
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and writing skills
- Demonstrated leadership skills and strategic focus
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build strong working relationships at all levels of management and across business functions
- Able to perform both independently and in a team environment
Additional Information
Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.
Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.
Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting. The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is 196,100 to 255,000 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity.
