Summary
As Director of Product Design at Virta, you will be responsible for leading and managing the product design team to create innovative and user-centric designs that align with the company's mission to reverse type 2 diabetes.

You will act as a manager, overseeing and guiding the work of the product design team, and as an individual contributor. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including product management, engineering, and our clinical care team to ensure the successful execution of design projects and the delivery of high-quality products to market.
You are passionate about delivering the best user experience. You have demonstrated experience of understanding user needs and translating that into product and design solutions. You also have managed a design team before and enjoy developing your team. You delight in changing the status quo in healthcare and welcome the challenge of delivering patient outcomes and through innovation. Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the product design team, providing direction, guidance, and mentorship to designers
- Contribute directly to the design process as an individual contributor for certain projects or squads (we are a small but mighty team).
- Create, own and implement a product design process to standardize how designers work with their engineering, product, and clinical team counterparts.
- Create and communicate design concepts, sketches, wireframes, and prototypes to illustrate design ideas and gather feedback from stakeholders.
- Champion a user-centric approach to product design, advocating for the needs and preferences of end users in the digital healthcare space throughout the design process.
- Establish and communicate a compelling design vision for the company's digital healthcare products
- Provide input and support to product management in defining product requirements, specifications, and go-to-market strategies.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product management, engineering, and user research, to understand user needs, business requirements, and technical constraints in and incorporate them into the design process.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in digital healthcare and product design, and provide recommendations for incorporating them into the company's design processes and tools.
90 Day Plan
Within your first 90 days at Virta, you will:
- Develop a strong understanding of our north star metrics at Virta, and ensure the product design team is set up to support.
- Understand in-flight roadmaps for our Patient and Clinic product groups and then decide the best way to provide hands-on product design support for certain projects
- Become proficient in our design system and ensure it is used for all projects
- Establish strong relationships across our product development team
- Understand how our product designers are involved in the roadmap planning process and make suggestions to improve
Must-Haves
- Minimum 10 years of product design experience designing complex software applications, ideally in the healthcare space
- 5 yrs experience in leading, growing, and managing a product design team
- Strong attention to detail and focus on excellence
- A strong portfolio of innovative, customer-centric design work that demonstrates proficiency in interaction and visual design as well as design leadership
- Proficiency in design tool Figma.
- Experience using design systems
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively present and communicate design concepts.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex design challenges in the digital healthcare space, propose innovative solutions, and make data-driven design decisions.

Virta has a location based compensation structure. Starting pay will be based on a number of factors and commensurate with qualifications & experience.
