VICE x Team

  • Today there is an endless stream of stories from around the world that deserve our attention--VICE Audio uses the intimacy and urgency of narrative storytelling to explore the most important issues of our time.

  • VICE Audio is responsible for the global production of VICE podcasts.

  • VICE Audio producers work as a team to tell immersive stories tied to a wide range of issues. We are audio-first, vérité focused, and borderless.

Scope of Assignment x You

VICE Audio is producing a limited run news/doc series with a global lens about internet culture and music and seeks an experienced freelance producer to work as part of our team for a short-term (six to seven month) assignment. There is also the possibility of a regular position after six months. We are particularly though not exclusively seeking someone with Korean language skills and/or knowledge of Korean language.

As a producer you will be responsible for owning all aspects of pre-production, production and post-production of narrative audio documentary. This includes researching, reporting and planning out the narrative structure of the story -- finding sources, characters and conceptualizing how the story will be told. Producer will cut tape, write scripts, assemble episodes in ProTools, participate in team edits, pre-interviewing and book guests, work with the reporter and/or host to produce stories in the field, helping out with other day-to-day planning, problem solving and finally, being part of a dynamic production team. Producers are expected to build stories in Pro Tools using field tape, reporter/host interviews, archive materials and music. Often you will own the Protools project up to final mix. Experience and enthusiasm with sound design necessary.

Producers will work in close collaboration with a story editor to take series from conception to completion. You will also be expected to contribute to the creative aspects of activating and launching the show.

This is a full-time freelance assignment with competitive pay and health insurance. Due to production timelines, an ideal start date is MID JUNE, however there is some flexibility.
