As a Contract Specialist for Vestas you'll use your skills and experience to:

  • Oversee the negotiation process of Vestas service contracts from internal kick-off meetings to the handover to Operations. This includes direct negotiation with customers.
  • Develop positions on all terms and conditions during negotiations, ensuring stakeholder input and concerns are appropriately represented.
  • Support Vestas service operations colleagues by interpreting contractual provisions in context of the situation in the field and at site
  • Identify possible contractual approaches and negotiating tactics to avoid or resolve customer disputes.
  • Assist implementing the chosen strategy through drafting and obtaining internal approvals of letters, notices, position papers and amendments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Management: Oversee the negotiation process of Vestas service contracts from internal kick-off meetings to the handover to Operations. This includes direct negotiation with customers.
  • Term Negotiation: Develop positions on all terms and conditions during negotiations, ensuring stakeholder input and concerns are appropriately represented.
  • Dispute Resolution: Identify contractual and commercial strategies to avoid or resolve customer disputes. Advance the chosen strategies through the formulation and endorsement of internal approvals for communications such as letters, notifications, policy papers, and contractual changes throughout the lifespan of the agreement.
  • Process Management: Engage with customer contacts, determine project schedules, organize and coordinate meetings, and align internal stakeholders on solution agreements.
  • Contract Consistency: Ensure all contracts and legal instruments align with Vestas' internal guidelines for acceptable commercial commitments and risk policies.
  • Database Maintenance: Maintain a contracts database that captures lifecycle requirements for easy reference and management of operational and commercial obligations.
  • Customer Interaction: Participate in direct customer conversations and negotiations as part of coordinated account teams or ad hoc teams to resolve specific issues.
  • Continuous Improvement: Review existing contracts for lessons learned and direct input to support the negotiation of new or renewal service agreements. Initiate internal process improvements necessary to support job responsibilities, including document management and reporting tools.
  • Value Creation: Identify opportunities to create mutual value for Vestas and customers while protecting Vestas' profitability and risk exposure.
  • Response Management: Timely respond to inquiries on points of contract interpretation from Service Site Managers.

Qualifications:

  • Education: J.D. or MBA, with at least 2 years of experience in contract interpretation or negotiation. Advanced coursework in contracts may be substituted.
  • Knowledge: Working knowledge of commercial regulations and law, including practices, procedures, and processes of contract administration, as well as interpretation of regulations and contract clauses.
  • Communication Skills: Proficient in both verbal and written forms, capable of crafting clear, succinct, and persuasive content. Proven ability to communicate with field personnel and negotiate contentious issues.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Demonstrated capabilities in problem-solving, negotiations, and conflict resolution.
  • Organizational Skills: Proficient in planning, organizing, handling various tasks simultaneously, setting priorities, and meeting a range of deadlines. Attention to detail is essential.
  • IT Proficiency: High proficiency with Microsoft Office and comfort with learning and using new internal IT platforms.

Competencies:

  • Experience: At least 3 years of experience in all phases of commercial negotiations and working knowledge of contract law.
  • Industry Knowledge: Experience in a capital equipment industry with long-term service-related contracts, or a construction-related industry.
  • Customer Relations: Experience working with customers and organizations with multiple operating sites and structures.
