Operational Resilience - Senior Specialist

As part of Enterprise Risk Management, this role is responsible for ensuring Vanguard Australia remains resilient during disruptions to critical operations. Working closely with the Senior Manager, Operational Resilience, you will be responsible for implementing, managing, and reporting on business resilience initiatives, including those related to critical operations. This role requires a combination of strong stakeholder engagement skills, technical expertise, and the ability to influence and drive outcomes. Your efforts will help to ensure that Vanguard Australia can withstand operational risks and maintain resilience during disruptions.
Additionally, this role is responsible for ensuring Vanguard Super's compliance with APRA Prudential Standard CPS 230 Operational Risk Management. You will also contribute to fostering a more operationally resilient culture within Vanguard Australia. The role involves close collaboration with critical operation owners, technical SMEs such as IT, the Office of the Superannuation Trustee, and other business areas to support Vanguard Australia with the oversight of operational risk profiles and the resilience of critical operations.

Core Responsibilities

  • Work with business stakeholders to proactively identify and manage operational resiliency risks, issues and events. When these issues and events occur, responsible for tracking and driving business to resolution.
  • Facilitate the ongoing maintenance of Vanguard Australia's operational and critical operation risk profiles in alignment with Business Continuity and Enterprise Risk Frameworks.
  • Monitoring the effectiveness of operational risk management activities and reporting on operational risk exposures.
  • Support and facilitate the Vanguard Australia Operational Resilience Forum to enable the business to oversee and manage operational risks effectively and fulfil their obligations in line with CPS 230 requirements.
  • Maintain strong relationships with stakeholders across Vanguard Super and Vanguard Investments Australia to embed operational resiliency culture.
  • Responsible for assisting to implement key operational risk and resiliency concepts across the business.
  • Conduct regular testing of resilience plans and frameworks, and implement improvements based on test results and lessons learned.
  • Develop and deliver training programs to enhance awareness and understanding of operational resilience across Vanguard Australia.
  • Collaborating with business stakeholders to develop and implement effective resilience strategies including managing critical operations and business processes to ensure our organisation's ability to prevent, adapt, respond to, recover, and learn from operational disruptions.
  • Prepare reporting for senior stakeholders including the Vanguard Australia Operational Resilience Forum and board committees on on critical operations resilience posture
  • Support VSPL's compliance with CPS230 Operational Risk Management.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of six years related work experience.
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Experience working within superannuation or financial services more broadly, and or large, complex, cross functional organisations.
  • Proven track record of collaborating with business stakeholders to develop and implement effective risk management strategies.
  • An interest in operational risk management and business resilience.
  • Ability to operationalise risk and resilience concepts.
  • Demonstrated expertise in developing and maintaining operational risk management policies, processes, procedures and delivering training.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
  • A demonstrated ability to take initiative, work independently and drive analytical solutions.
  • Working knowledge of Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Visio. Knowledge of GRC systems preferred.
