Responsibilities:
- Tax Technology and Software: Utilize tax software and technology tools to streamline tax processes, improve accuracy, and enhance efficiency. Stay current with advancements in tax technology and recommend improvements to existing systems and procedures.
- Tax Return Preparation and Filing: Prepare and file accurate and timely federal corporate tax returns, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. This includes gathering and analyzing financial data, identifying relevant tax positions, and calculating tax liabilities.
- Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with other members of the tax and finance teams, as well as external advisors, to ensure a coordinated approach to tax compliance and planning. Communicate effectively with various stakeholders, including senior management, to provide updates on tax matters and potential risks.
- Tax Planning and Strategy: Develop and implement tax planning strategies to minimize federal tax liabilities and maximize tax benefits. This involves staying current with changes in tax laws, regulations, and rulings, and advising management on potential tax implications of business decisions.
- Compliance and Documentation: Maintain comprehensive and accurate documentation of all tax-related activities, including tax returns, supporting schedules, work papers, and correspondence with tax authorities. Ensure that all required records are properly stored and easily accessible for audits and inquiries.
- Audit Support: Assist with federal tax audits and examinations, providing necessary documentation and explanations to tax authorities. Work with external auditors and legal advisors to resolve any issues or disputes that may arise during the audit process.
- Research and Analysis: Conduct in-depth research on complex tax issues, interpret tax laws and regulations, and provide technical guidance to management and other stakeholders. Stay informed of industry trends and best practices to ensure the organization remains compliant and competitive.
- SOX Compliance: Ensure adherence to Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) controls and requirements. Maintaining compliance with internal control procedures related to tax processes.
- Training and Development: Participate in ongoing professional development and training opportunities to maintain and enhance expertise in federal corporate taxation. Mentor and train junior tax staff to build a strong and knowledgeable tax team.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Certification: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent certification is highly desirable. Additional certifications suck as Certified Tax Advisor (CTA), or Enrolled Agent (EA) are advantageous.
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in federal corporate taxation, preferably in a public accounting firm or a corporate tax department. Experience with tax planning, compliance, and audit support is essential.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in tax and ERP software (e.g., Oracle, OneSource, CCH, or similar) and Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Strong analytical skills and attention to detail are required.
- Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of federal tax laws, regulations, and rulings affecting corporate entities. Familiarity with international tax issues and transfer pricing is a plus.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex tax concepts in a clear and concise manner. Strong interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and creatively to identify tax-saving opportunities and mitigate risks.
- Organization: Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and prioritize work effectively.
- Ethics: High ethical standards and integrity, with a commitment to maintaining confidentiality and complying with all legal and regulatory requirements.
