Provides investment risk management oversight across Vanguards' UCITS line-up of equity funds and ETFs, through detailed analysis, surveillance and engagement with our Portfolio Management and Trading team. The role will also support Vanguard's suite of LifeStrategy and Target Retirement multi-asset funds. As an Investment Risk Analyst you will be part of the Investment Management and Finance Risk (IMFR) which is organizationally positioned within the second line of defense, though co-located on the trade floor with our Portfolio Managers and integral to the first line.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Demonstrates a deep understanding of Vanguard investment portfolios managed in Europe and conducts in-depth risk analysis of investment portfolios, competitors and index universes, and works collaboratively with the portfolio managers to address potential issues.
- Thinks critically about a broad range of potential investment risks, gathers relevant data and information systematically, can translate complex data to identify relationships and trends. Manages and produces accurate risk analytics, and contributes insight into key risk considerations during engagement with investment teams.
- Develops and maintains knowledge of financial markets, quantitative drivers, and general investment themes to bring an informed perspective to the risk management processes.
- Contributes to global IMFR Objectives and Key Results initiatives such as improving the core global investment risk management frameworks and enhancing regional risk governance processes and workflows.
- Supports colleagues within the team through teaching technical skills, business acumen, and risk management framework.
- Presents thorough, clear, and insightful analysis to senior leaders, portfolio managers, and traders in a professional manner.
- Identifies, leads and participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience. Progress towards advanced degree and/or professional certification (CFA, FRM) preferred.
- Minimum three years related analytical work experience.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Good foundation of investment knowledge with experience in equity and/or multi-asset fund management desirable.
- Knowledge of FactSet, Bloomberg, BarraOne and Axioma preferred and experience with R, Matlab, SQL, VBA, Python or related programming languages desirable.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities and complex projects with attention to detail while meeting deadlines.
- Proven ability to analyze issues quickly and independently and take appropriate action under tight time constraints.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a proven ability to interact and build effective working relationships with peers and senior management.
