What this job involves - The Chief Engineer is responsible for overseeing all technical and engineering aspects of our property management operations, ensuring optimal performance, efficiency, and compliance with relevant regulations.

What is the day to day?

  • Supervises and directs Plant staff and monitors performance of their assigned responsibilities.
  • Performs and/or directs the performance of all Utility plant departmental service requests and PM’s, ensuring that work performed in these areas is accomplished efficiently with a minimum amount of disruption to the client.
  • Checks malfunctioning equipment and ascertains corrective action required to restore to satisfactory operating condition.
  • Provides training and supervision aimed at expanding the capabilities of the plant staff. 
  • Demonstrating the proper documentation practices, use and care of tools and instruments, giving hands on instruction in electrical maintenance, safety, and troubleshooting procedures, recommending relevant outside engineering courses for enrollment and instilling an overall level of professionalism in manner and appearance.
  • Supervises and implements the preventative maintenance program. 
  • Performing and/or delegating preventative maintenance tasks to the appropriately qualified operating staff members, manages Work order backlog, and ensures and maintains a clean and safe workplace.
  • Available to take after hours phone calls for emergency support, track and approve vacations and payroll

Desired experience and technical skills -

Required

  • 7+ years of experience in plant or industrial facilities environment
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and life safety systems
  • Experience with boilers, chillers, and water systems
  • Proficiency in building automation systems (BAS) and/or energy management (EMS)
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and in confined spaces
  • Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to complete work orders and assist team members 'turning' wrenches
  • May require occasional work during non-business hours or on-call availability
  • Shift: Monday to Friday, 7 AM to 3:30 PM, OT as needed
