General Summary:

The Chief Investment Officer (CIO) will be responsible for overseeing the investment strategy and portfolio management of the company's invested assets to ensure optimal returns, capital preservation, and alignment with the company's risk tolerance and regulatory requirements. This senior leadership role involves collaborating with executive management to develop long-term financial strategies and ensure the company's solvency and profitability through effective investment practices.

Principal Duties:

Investment Strategy & Execution:

• Oversee, implement, and manage the company's investment strategy aligned with business goals, risk appetite, and regulatory guidelines.

• Optimize the portfolio to balance returns, liquidity, and risk, considering macroeconomic trends and market conditions.

Portfolio Management:

• Oversee asset allocation across fixed income, equities, real estate, and alternative investments.

• Monitor portfolio performance and adjust strategies to meet financial objectives.

• Ensure investments comply with regulatory frameworks, such as NAIC and Solvency II guidelines.

Risk Management:

• Identify, assess, and mitigate risks related to market volatility, credit trends, interest rates, and credit exposure.

• Collaborate with the risk management team to ensure investments align with the company's risk limits.

Leadership & Collaboration:

• Lead the investment team, providing strategic direction, mentorship, and performance management.

• Partner with executive leadership and finance to align investment strategies with overall company goals.

• Present portfolio performance updates and strategic recommendations to the board of directors and investment committees.

• Foster a diverse and inclusive investment team culture that encourages varied perspectives and innovative thinking

Stakeholder Engagement & Reporting:

• Maintain relationships with external asset managers, financial institutions, and rating agencies.

• Ensure transparent reporting of investment performance, market outlooks, and compliance updates to stakeholders.

Market Research & Innovation:

• Stay informed about global financial trends, regulatory changes, and emerging investment opportunities.

• Continually assess new asset classes or strategies that could enhance portfolio performance.

Job Specifications

  • MBA and Chartered Financial Analyst preferred
  • Minimum of 10-15 plus years work experience in private and public securities management and team management experience
  • Knowledge of both private and public debt markets for relative value determination
  • Strong communication, presentation and negotiation skills
  • Strong persuasion and partnering skills
  • Strong leadership skills

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.
$253,800.00-$521,000.00

Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not. All benefits are subject to the terms and conditions of individual Plans.
