General Summary:

The Software Engineer I will play a critical role in the design, development, and maintenance of software solutions that support the business's goals. Collaborating with agile team members and stakeholders, the Software Engineer I ensures high-quality software delivery through unit testing, continuous integration practices, and adherence to company standards.

This position requires strong problem-solving skills, a passion for technology, and a commitment to continuous learning and improvement.

This is a hybrid opportunity, defined at 2 days onsite per week at our Chattanooga, TN, Atlanta, GA, Columbia, SC or Portland, ME campus

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent relevant experience.
  • 2+ years of proven success in software development, particularly at the Associate level.
  • Proficiency in Java and C# Object-Oriented Programming, including .NET Framework/Core 5.0+.
  • Experience building and supporting RESTful APIs.
  • Familiarity with AWS technologies (e.g., API Gateway, Lambda, Cloudwatch, S3, Connect).
  • Strong SQL skills, including writing queries, stored procedures, and table modifications.
  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies and continuous integration practices.
  • Excellent communication skills with a collaborative team-oriented approach.
  • A strong desire for continuous learning and professional growth.

Nice to Haves:

  • Experience with version updates in .NET.
  • Familiarity with JavaScript, React.js, Typescript.
  • Experience with unit testing frameworks like Jest or Mocha.
  • Understanding of Web Accessibility guidelines.
  • Basic knowledge of web analytics.
  • Experience with DevOps and CI/CD concepts.
  • Cloud development experience with a provider like AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and maintain new features for business applications.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure the effective delivery of software features.
  • Develop, configure, test, and document software in accordance with agreed standards.
  • Participate in estimation, sizing, and agile sprint planning activities.
  • Engage in daily scrum meetings, report progress, and escalate issues as needed.
  • Conduct code reviews and participate in sprint retrospectives to identify areas for improvement.
  • Ensure high-quality software through manual and automated testing and integration.
  • Align software solutions with company architecture and standards.
  • Collaborate with Business Analysts and UX designers to define and implement technical solutions.
  • Assist Test Engineers in ensuring software meets production standards.
  • Automate software testing processes to enhance efficiency and coverage.
  • Maintain visibility of project progress using Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) tools and participate in standups and team meetings.

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.
$60,500.00-$123,400.00

Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not. All benefits are subject to the terms and conditions of individual Plans.
