General Summary:

Unum is seeking a Software Engineer I to focus on our Benefit platforms and technology. The Software Engineer will be responsible for building and configuring software solutions within their assigned business portfolio. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality software by collaborating with agile team members and utilizing unit testing and continuous integration practices. Additionally, they will contribute to work estimation for software feature delivery. This hybrid position is available in Chattanooga, TN; Portland, ME; Atlanta, GA; and Columbia, SC.

Job Specifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science preferred, or equivalent relevant experience
  • 2+ years of software development experience at the Associate level or equivalent
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with technology
  • Knowledge of Agile Development Methodologies
  • Self-motivated, results-driven, and innovative approach to problem solving
  • Strong focus on quality delivery and customer satisfaction, holding high personal standards
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Effective team player, capable of collaborating across diverse teams and backgrounds

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain new and existing features for business area applications
  • Experience with C# and SQL is preferred
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders, Business Analysts, and UX designers to define and deliver features
  • Write clean, maintainable code following agreed-upon standards; perform unit testing, documentation, and code reviews
  • Ensure high-quality software delivery through manual and automated testing, leveraging continuous integration techniques
  • Participate in agile ceremonies (daily standups, sprint retrospectives, and sizing/estimation) and contribute to process improvement
  • Communicate progress and report impediments to the Scrum Master/Team Lead and agile team
  • Work on Proof of Concept projects and prototypes as needed
  • Define and ensure alignment with "Definition of Done" at all production stages
  • Collaborate with Test Engineers and Technical Support Engineers to ensure successful transition and stability of software in production
  • Automate software testing to industry standards, ensuring efficient regression testing and delivery of high-quality solutions
  • Keep Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) tools updated and participate in daily standups to share progress and blockers
  • Continuously improve team processes, evaluate new technologies, and promote innovation
  • Maintain a customer-focused mindset to enhance user experience and satisfaction

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.
$60,500.00-$123,400.00

Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not. All benefits are subject to the terms and conditions of individual Plans.
