General Summary:

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience preferred.
  • 6+ years of experience in software development and delivery within an Agile environment, with at least 2 years working in Agile teams and participating in ceremonies such as sprints and retrospectives.
  • 5+ years of experience using .NET and C#.
  • Expertise in maintaining and building APIs.
  • Hands-on experience with Azure, AWS, and/or Windows Server environments.
  • Proficiency with SDLC tools such as Jira or Rally.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and maintain documentation, including architecture, design, troubleshooting, and setup.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills, with a logical and detail-oriented approach to solving complex technical problems and driving system optimizations.
  • Experience in Agile methodologies, test-driven development (TDD), unit testing, and leveraging automation and continuous integration tools.
  • Proven ability to deliver high-quality solutions with a strong focus on customer satisfaction.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, with experience leading technical discussions.
  • A collaborative team player who works well across diverse teams and organizational backgrounds.
  • Motivated, results-oriented, and innovative in problem-solving approaches.
  • Front-end experience with React is a plus.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines is a plus.
  • Previous insurance industry experience is a plus.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the conceptualization, design, development, implementation, and maintenance of new and existing features within the business area's application portfolio.
  • Provide technical leadership for EPIC features and ensure designs meet agreed-upon quality attributes such as performance and fault tolerance.
  • Design, code, configure, unit test, maintain, and document software deliverables using established standards and tools.
  • Collaborate with Principal Software Engineers, architects, and Agile team members on coding standards, processes, tooling, and frameworks for feature delivery.
  • Deliver secure, scalable solutions that adhere to defined standards and best practices, emphasizing cloud-based and third-party options.
  • Ensure the technical quality of team deliverables from design through deployment, maintaining depth in third-party/cloud solutions and Unum-specific implementations.
  • Maintain and prioritize the product backlog with appropriate technical stories, coordinating sizing and estimation activities.
  • Mentor and guide developers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, including daily standups, code reviews, sprint retrospectives, and planning sessions, contributing to continuous process improvement.
  • Collaborate across roles (e.g., Business Analysts, UX designers, Test Engineers) to ensure requirements, designs, and solutions align and deliver value.
  • Automate testing and ensure quality through manual and automated methods, leveraging continuous integration practices.
  • Lead or participate in Proof of Concept (POC) and prototyping activities as necessary.
  • Actively contribute to innovation by evaluating new processes and technologies for future use.
  • Facilitate the transition of software features to production, ensuring performance, stability, and adherence to release standards.
  • May serve as Scrum Master for an Agile team when required.

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.
$89,400.00-$183,500.00

Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not. All benefits are subject to the terms and conditions of individual Plans.
