General Summary:

This Data Program Manager is focused on Enterprise Data and will report to the Director of Data Program Management. They are responsible for planning and delivering multiple large-scale, highly visible initiatives by leveraging the appropriate methodology and processes in a fast-paced environment that crosses a significant number of parallel activities across business and technical departments.

The Program Manager should have Agile IT project management experience and be able to leverage as appropriate. They are expected to perform at a high level, leading strategic, cross-functional and cross-company, business facing and technical initiatives and have a proven track record of being solution and delivery focused.

Core responsibilities for this role include Program Management of key delivery programs across the Data team, management of the Intake process and deliverables required from the Data Technology organization, and management of cross-functional strategic initiatives and leadership reporting as needed. This role is highly collaborative with the broader Data Journey team and requires a strong partnership with our Change team.

This is a Hybrid Opportunity located in Portland, Maine, Chattanooga, TN, Columbia, SC or Atlanta, GA. This would require a minimum of 2 days per week on campus.

Job Specifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional qualifications.
  • 5+ years of experience in project management/ IT with a preference of at least 1 year of Program Management.
  • Advanced knowledge of Agile, Scaled Agile, and the overall Product Development Lifecycle.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders and adapt to ambiguity with actionable plans.
  • Expertise in creating documents, dashboards, and presentations for technical, business, and executive audiences.
  • Demonstrated leadership on large-scale initiatives ($1M+).
  • Project management certifications (e.g., PMP, Prince2, CSM, CSPO, CSP) are a plus.
  • Experience with tools like Rally and Clarity PPM is a plus.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversees all stages of project and program management, including product delivery, budget management, and proper closure.
  • Collaborates effectively across teams, demonstrating flexibility, diplomacy, persistence, and energy in fast-paced, dynamic environments.
  • Serves as a role model for project management professionalism, emphasizing critical thinking, business value metrics, and productivity.
  • Ensures project success by aligning outcomes with measurable business benefits and long-term performance.
  • Leads and integrates activities across multiple teams, providing visibility and coordinating dependencies within and beyond the organization.
  • Initiates and drives software process improvements to enhance operational effectiveness.
  • Identifies, assesses, and manages project risks, adapting strategies as necessary.
  • Builds strong relationships with business and technology stakeholders to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
  • Resolves conflicts and promotes solutions that advance the organization's objectives.
  • Provides clear, concise updates tailored to various stakeholder levels, including executive leadership.
  • Partners with Scrum Masters and other Agile roles to monitor progress, address impediments, and ensure program-level delivery.

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.
$109,100.00-$224,000.00

Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not. All benefits are subject to the terms and conditions of individual Plans.
