General Summary:

This position is accountable for the leadership of the HR Service Delivery function, ensuring all activities undertaken by the team are well developed and delivered within the agreed timeframes to the appropriate standard.

This role should raise the bar on performance of HR services by being customer focused and work with stakeholders across the Group to leverage resources and drive continuous improvement.

Key member of Unum Crisis Response Team to ensure HR services and programs are delivered to employees who are impacted during events which cause interruptions to our workforce.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the Shared Services and Payroll teams and the activities they undertake. This includes overseeing the recruitment, training and development of the team, work allocation (including projects), planning, budget control, and ensuring agreed service levels are met and reflect the appropriate employee experience.
  • Lead and oversee the management of the operational readiness plans, holding the team to account on progress of delivery, escalating matters that arise.
  • Drive the progression and adoption of HR procedures, services, and channels (e.g. Workday, ServiceNow and intranet pages) which are considered value added, measurable, and aimed at increasing employee and manager self-service and case deflection.
  • Ensure processes are well-defined, documented, and adopted by all relevant resources to ensure optimal effectiveness.
  • Manage multiple external relationships where services are outsourced with the overall responsibility of defining appropriate levels of service e.g. payroll, unemployment.
  • Comply with Unum's Code of Conduct and other Company Policies and Procedures as appropriate to the role and drive the behaviors of others.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Specifications

  • College degree or equivalent required.
  • 15+ years general HR knowledge to include areas such as: HR Services, HR Planning/Project Management, Staffing, Employee Development, Compensation, ER, HR Policy Development, Benefits, EEO & AA, Financial Planning & Analysis.
  • Experience/working knowledge of Shared Services, HRIS, Payroll and various HR Applications as well as emerging technologies
  • A significant in-depth knowledge of HR shared services covering procedures, systems and best practice is essential.
  • Strong strategic thinking in creating appropriate and valued HR Solutions.
  • A breadth of generalist HR experience (inc. front line operational experience) to enable understanding of key HR processes that require service delivery support.
  • Expertise in Payroll, HR Systems and HR Administration including leave of absence, relocation, and right to work.
  • Experience of driving efficiency through streamlining and documenting process, using technology to drive automation and delivering a self-service model.
  • Experience of gathering data, analysis and insights using tableau or equivalent tools.
  • Ability to manage projects and deliver to deadlines, including strong organizational /prioritizations and problem-solving skills.
  • Highly developed analytical skills.
  • Ability to identify and manage risk.
  • Considerable experience in stakeholder management including Senior/Exec Level with strong persuasion, influencing skills and ability to build strong working relationships.
  • Excellent communication skills and good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to successfully lead teams, motivating and developing colleagues.
  • Ability to understand broad business implications of process /technology changes.

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.
$114,100.00-$215,700.00

Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not. All benefits are subject to the terms and conditions of individual Plans.
