Position in this function is responsible for working with the surgical team to insure that quality care is given to the patient. Works with team members in providing assistance to the Surgeon by being familiar with the surgical procedure, instruments, supplies and equipment.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Consistently exhibits behavior and communication skills that demonstrate Optum's commitment to superior customer service, including quality, care and concern with each and every internal and external customer
- Assists in the assessment, planning and implementation of care given to the surgical patient
- Demonstrates ability to use supplies, equipment and instruments appropriately
- Follows strict principles of aseptic technique both in procedures and in processing of equipment and instrumentation
- Demonstrates competence in assisting with surgical procedures
- Demonstrates knowledge of health and safety policies and procedures, regulatory agency requirements, quality improvement process, facility and departmental policies, procedures and protocols
- Demonstrates knowledge of Universal Precautions
- Participates in the identification and implementation of improvements in the delivery of quality care
- Responds expediently and courteously to requests for help from patients and staff
- Uses judgment in seeking consultation from circulating Nurse and other unit Nursing staff
- Maintains composure and initiates emergency care as appropriate according to ACLS guidelines
- Works with team members in the selection of supplies, instrumentation and equipment needed for patient care
- Uses, protects, and discloses Optum patients' protected health information (PHI) only in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards
- Performs additional duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:
- Current WA State Surgical Technologist Registration (ST)
- Current AHA/BLS Certification
Preferred Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited school of Surgical Technologists
- Current ORT (Operating Room Technician) certification
- 2+ years of experience as a surgical technologist in an acute care setting or a busy multi-specialty ASC
Washington Residents Only: The hourly range for this role is $27.00 to $37.00 per hour.
