About the role:

UKG is looking for a highly skilled Principal Software Engineer who will take a strategic technical leadership role in our engineering team. As our primary DevOps expert, you will be responsible for architecting and overseeing the implementation of scalable, reliable, and secure infrastructure solutions, as well as leading and mentoring other members of the DevOps team. Your extensive knowledge of Terraform and Ansible, coupled with your expertise in cloud technologies, will be instrumental in shaping our infrastructure and deployment strategies, driving innovation, and influencing the direction of our DevOps practices. At times you will work independently with guidance only in the most complex situations and lead large initiatives with substantial risk, visibility, and complexity.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Architect and oversee the design, implementation, and management of our google cloud infrastructure using Terraform, ensuring best practices for scalability, resiliency, and security.
• Develop and maintain highly efficient Ansible playbooks and establish advanced configuration management best practices.
• Provide strategic leadership and mentorship to the DevOps team, fostering a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and improvement.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the smooth integration and deployment of applications, acting as a strategic advisor.
• Optimize infrastructure performance, monitoring ongoing operations, and implementing proactive, innovative solutions for issues and bottlenecks.
• Establish and maintain CI/CD pipelines, designing and implementing automated testing and release processes, and driving the adoption of new tools and technologies.
• Evaluate and recommend new tools and technologies to enhance the DevOps workflow and improve efficiency, staying ahead of industry trends.
• Act as a subject matter expert for DevOps practices, providing strategic advice and influencing key decisions within the organization.
• Lead large initiatives with substantial risk, visibility, and complexity, ensuring successful implementation and integration.

About You:
Qualifications:
• Proven experience as a Principal DevOps/Software Engineer, leading the architecture and implementation of complex and scalable infrastructures.
• Extensive expertise in Terraform and Ansible, with a deep understanding of their capabilities and best practices.
• Strong knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and proficiency in designing and managing cloud resources.
• Excellent scripting and automation skills using languages like Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
• Proven ability to technically lead and mentor a team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex infrastructure issues in production environments.
• In-depth knowledge of containerization technologies such as Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes.
• Solid understanding of networking concepts, security principles, and infrastructure hardening practices.
• Experience with CI/CD tools like GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, or CircleCI.
• Certifications in Terraform and/or Google Cloud Platform (GCP) a plus.
• Exceptional problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.

The pay range for this position is $137,900.00 to $198,250.00, however, base pay offered may vary depending on skills, experience, job-related knowledge and location. This position is also eligible for a short-term incentive and a long-term incentive as part of total compensation.
