Principal Database Administrator / Reliability Engineer (Microsoft SQL Server)

We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Database Administrator/Reliability Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role will provide you with the opportunity to work on cutting-edge SaaS technologies and impactful projects that are used by enterprises and users worldwide. You will drive technical strategy, lead large-scale projects, and mentor engineers across the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

Architect, design and building of Microsoft SQL Server Infrastructure Onprem and public Cloud (AWS or GCP or Azure) ensuring high standards of performance, scalability, and reliability.

Drive the technical strategy and vision for major projects and initiatives, ensuring alignment with business goals and industry best practices.

Troubleshoot and resolve performance-related issues for SQL 2012-2022 servers, SSIS, reporting, ETL, and data warehouse-related issues. Cross collaboration across team resolving infrastructure bottleneck and database issues.

Implement and maintain clustering, log shipping, Always On, and replication solutions.

Develop team policies, procedures, and techniques. Drive prioritization of technical debt, articulating the expected impact and outcomes.

Provide technical mentorship and guidance, Mentor junior engineers on taking ownership of the full lifecycle of MSSQL services support.

Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation for database systems. Continuously review and update existing best practices/SOPs.

Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends.

Participate in the on-call rotations and provide critical support for production systems.

Basic Qualifications

  • 7+ years of professional experience as a SQL Server DBA or in a similar role, along with a Microsoft SQL Server certification
  • Deep expertise in SQL Server administration (2012-2022), including installation, configuration, maintenance, and performance tuning, with a strong grasp of Transactional SQL, stored procedures, and SQL monitoring tools
  • Proven experience implementing high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) solutions for SQL Server using techniques like mirroring, replication, log shipping, and MS clustering.
  • Database Security & Backup: Practical experience in planning and implementing database security measures, including internal and external MS SQL security best practices, along with proven ability to design and implement effective backup and recovery policies.
  • Proficient in scripting and automation using PowerShell, Python, Go, and Google Cloud Scripting, coupled with a solid understanding of server hardware, operating systems, and infrastructure as code (IaC) concepts.
  • Experience working within hosting or SaaS environments, with familiarity working with various database technologies (including SQL, NoSQL, and SaaS instances) and building telemetry/observability implementations.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field

  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal skills

The pay range for this position is $142,100 to $204,200, however, base pay offered may vary depending on skills, experience, job-related knowledge and location. This position is also eligible for a short-term incentive and a long-term incentive as part of total compensation.
