Uber's Ads Engineering Org is redefining in-app advertising by creating scalable, high-performance ad products and formats that drive revenue while enhancing user engagement. The Ad Products team focuses on building innovative ad experiences, including Sponsored listings, Display Ads, Video, Rich media, and Interactive ad formats that seamlessly integrate into Uber's Mobility and Delivery platforms.

As a Staff Software Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in architecting, building, and scaling Uber's ad products. You will lead the development of build end-to-end ad solutions that connect advertisers with Uber's massive user base. This role offers a unique opportunity to work on large-scale distributed systems, interactive ad experiences, and data-driven optimizations that power Uber's ad monetization strategy.

What the Candidate Will Do:

  • Design and develop next-generation ad products and formats, ensuring seamless integration into Uber's user experiences.
  • Build high-performance, scalable ad-serving capabilities that power native ads, video ads, and interactive ad experiences.
  • Lead the technical direction for ad product innovation, driving the evolution of Uber's advertising ecosystem.
  • Optimize ad ranking, targeting, and auction mechanics to maximize engagement and revenue.
  • Work closely with Product, Design, Machine Learning, and Data Science teams to craft compelling ad experiences.
  • Ensure seamless ad rendering, fast load times, and high-quality user experiences across Uber's apps.
  • Drive A/B testing, experimentation, and ad measurement strategies to optimize ad effectiveness.
  • Influence long-term technical roadmap, architecture decisions, and engineering best practices for the Ads Engineering Org.
  • Mentor and coach engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and innovation.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 8 years of software engineering experience, with expertise in building and scaling ad products.
  • Strong proficiency in Java, Scala, Python, or Golang for backend development.
  • Expertise in distributed systems and micro-services architecture.
  • Experience with SQL, NoSQL databases, caching, and large-scale storage solutions.
  • Excellent problem-solving, system design, and leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Track record of leading technical initiatives and mentoring engineers in high-growth environments.
  • Experience in AdTech, programmatic advertising, or in-app ad monetization.
  • Strong understanding of native ads, video ads, interactive ad units, and rich media experiences.
  • Hands-on experience in A/B testing, experimentation platforms, and ad effectiveness measurement.
  • Familiarity with privacy-preserving advertising, attribution modeling, and fraud prevention.
  • Experience working with streaming frameworks like Kafka, Flink, or Spark for real-time data processing.

For New York, NY-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$223,000 per year - USD$248,000 per year.

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$223,000 per year - USD$248,000 per year.

For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$223,000 per year - USD$248,000 per year.
