About the Role

On the Rides Engineering team, we write code that ignites opportunities for millions of people every day. We are focused on making Uber's core ride sharing products faster, safer, and more reliable by building scalable software solutions for riders and drivers on our platform.

We are crafting and building the most highly trafficked experiences in the Rider App, including the homescreen, messaging, and core trip flow. As we scale the number of ways riders can use Uber, we're partnering with UberAI to build Uber's first personalized surfaces that understand what riders want in real time.

Our platform consists of components to accelerate Uber's growth by enabling discovery, and deep engagement for riders through contextually relevant communication throughout the rider's journey via all key surfaces in the Rider app. We work closely with every team that builds in the Rider App including Memberships, Promotions, UberEats etc to help them scale faster and reach more riders.

1. As a software engineer, you'll engage in product and engineering jam sessions conceptualising features and mapping them into a technical design. You will build software that will ship to millions of users, or thousands of fellow engineers growing multiple apps that directly impact the ease of our users' lives.
2. Design systems across the stack including close collaboration with backend engineers, designers, data scientists and product managers among others.
3. Help teams with defining an architecture that would scale and also encourage best practices.
4. Create frameworks and abstractions that are reliable, reusable and avoid surprising outcomes.
5. Go to person to get clarity of problem statements and also can breakdown into meaningful tasks.
6. Promote and demonstrate problem-specific expertise and execution excellence in delivering results

1. Grit, drive and a deep feeling of ownership.
2. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field (focus on ML/AI is a plus).
3. 5+ years of experience in executing Android-based projects, providing technical guidance and training in Android development to teams of mobile engineers, and ensuring successful project completion.
4. Deep expertise in Java or Kotlin, with a thorough understanding of the Android SDK, architecture components, and design patterns.
5. Familiarity with mobile development tools such as Android Studio, and experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).
6. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and third-party collaborators (e.g., Google, Apple).

2. Demonstrated experience working collaboratively in cross-functional teams
3. Experience collaborating on projects and working efficiently as part of a team.
4. Familiarity with concepts of distributed systems.
5. Experience analysing features in production using analytics and experiments
