About the Role
Core Security Engineering's mission is to make the Uber production environment secure by default and provide industry leading products and services to all Uber's production services and infrastructure. We are focused on building both security primitives and end users products that help Uber engineers to secure their service, build trust, and advance security to enable our global business.
We are looking for a Software Engineer II to join our Platform Security Team. We are responsible for providing and managing platform Workload Identity, Uber PKI, Secrets and Encryption key material for all of Uber's services. You'll work on critical distributed multi-cloud services at a massive scale built with best security practices at the forefront. You'll be responsible for long term decisions on leveraging next gen infra to continuously scale and operate such foundational security services.

---- What the Candidate Will Do ----
As a Software Engineer on our team, you'll play a key role in working towards our team mission. You will be responsible for
- Design and implement distributed systems that have a direct impact on our all the workloads at Uber, drive optimizations, user trust and security.
- Collaborate with multiple engineering teams for integration into our platform
- Champion best software engineering practices such as continuous integration, delivery, and deployment.
- Write quality code and documentation which can be used as the example for your company
- Mentor and get mentored by other engineers and build a strong culture of quality, handle conflicts well and help build consensus.
---- Basic Qualifications ----
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field.
- 2+ years of experience in software engineering with strong knowledge of system design and architecture.
- Experience in building highly scalable, reliable and fault tolerant systems for business critical applications
- Experience with agile development and adopting engineering best practices with well defined goals and metrics.
- Experience with at least one object-oriented programming language (e.g. Java, C++, Python, Go, C#).
---- Preferred Qualifications ----
- Experience with Open Source Projects and/or active contributors into major open source projects like Kubernetes, Istio, Envoy, SPIRE/SPIFFE, Google Tink etc
- Experience with security oriented Public Key Infrastructure, PaaS / SaaS like AWS KMS, Azure Key Vault, HashiCorp Vault etc.

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$158,000 per year - USD$175,500 per year.
For Seattle, WA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$158,000 per year - USD$175,500 per year.
For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$158,000 per year - USD$175,500 per year.
