About the Role
Uber is looking to add a Senior Tax Counsel to our Global Tax Planning & Strategy team! This role will report to our Director, Tax Counsel and will lead both M&A and internal tax planning projects. What you'll do
- Monitor existing and proposed tax legislation, assess planning opportunities, and identify/recommend initiatives to the Director, Tax Counsel and VP of Tax.
- Advise cross functional teams on M&A and internal planning projects.
- Perform tax diligence and provide structuring advice with respect to acquisition and dispositions.
- Partner with key contacts in legal, operations, corporate development, finance, and treasury to identify and implement tax planning strategies and minimize potential tax risks.
- Review contracts and collaborate with legal to ensure contracts contain key terms consistent with global tax structure.
- Mentor, lead and serve as technical resource for more junior team members.
- Work with a global tax team.
- Experience working with and in a cross-functional team.

Basic Qualifications
- JD required, with active membership in a state bar.
- Minimum 8 years of experience in an accounting firm, law firm and/or in-house at a multi-national corporate group with a solid understanding of US federal income taxes and M&A concepts, including complex corporate transaction experience.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with senior management team and coordinate with other teams within Uber.
- Strong tax research and tax analytical skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of US federal tax rules for partnerships.
- Experience with financial instruments, hedging and other treasury related matters.
- The ability to juggle multiple projects at a time in an exciting, fast-paced environment, both collaborating as a team to stay in sync and working independently to get the job done.
- Excellent business judgment and high comfort level advising business teams on a wide range of legal issues related to technology and/or software platforms.
- Strong interpersonal skills and highly collaborative with both business leaders and legal groups, with strong ability to build relationships, gain credibility, and partner across functions to build consensus.
- Clear communicator, team orientated, and willing to take initiative while thinking two steps ahead.
- Confidence and flexibility to operate in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
- Inquisitiveness, along with the ability to spot issues, get to the heart of a matter, and articulate plans to address them.

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$243,000 per year - USD$270,000 per year.
