Uber

Senior Product Manager, Fares Platform

Seattle, WA

About the Role

Fares refers to Uber's platform for calculating who pays who what across all Uber's lines of businesses, including mobility products (e.g., UberX, Transit, Black, Reserve, etc.) and delivery products (e.g., Eats, Grocery, Direct). It processes over 100 billion pricing estimates a year (growing fast). Fares aims to deliver clear, trustworthy, and intelligent fares for all Uber customers and stakeholders and consists of both consumer experiences (pre-trip and post-trip) as well as a large platform that works across Pricing, Fulfillment, Accounting, and many other systems to generate fares for a large number of use cases.

This platform product role focussed on developing the platform capabilities, tooling, and interfaces to enable Uber teams to build, experiment with, grow & operate new products and businesses with high velocity and reliability. You will solve tough, ambiguous problems every day, and work with highly motivated, and talented engineers and peers. A key part of the job is discovering, understanding and finding ways to simplify and consolidate extremely complex processes & business rules into manageable processes, concepts, components and interfaces that are flexible, usable and reliable.

What the Candidate Will Do

  • Internalize Uber's strategy and apply it to the Fares domain
  • Become an expert on money movement, tax, accounting, legal, and regulatory rules necessary to launch a business/product at Uber, and find ways to abstract and simplify
  • Decrease project lead time from conception to launch of new businesses and products across mobility and delivery lines of business, partnering closely with other platform teams (rider, earner, fulfillment, etc) and downstream teams such as commerce platform, tax, and accounting
  • Increase developer velocity and platform reliability with capabilities, processes, and tooling for the entire development lifecycle
  • Develop world-class tooling for business people and operators to control the pricing, growth, and profitability of their businesses
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to understand their needs and support diverse initiatives, including growth bets, improved profitability, reduced risks for Uber, and more

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience as a Product Manager AND a bachelors degree in Computer Science or similar.
  • Experience with products related to pricing, financial transactions, taxes, payments, or accounting.
  • Experience with internal tooling and platforms
  • Experience with API or developer focussed products.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical savviness. It can manifest in different ways: a computer science undergraduate degree, hands-on software engineering experience, or experiences building complex software products side by side with engineers. Technical understanding must go from the highest abstractions down to the metal.
  • Attention to detail. The ability to obsess over every single part of the food-making process.
  • Customer obsession. The ability to take on complex product challenges and find elegant, simplifying solutions to avoid making them our user's and partner's problems.
  • Finger-tippiness with data. You find a way to get the data you need and whip it into an insightful story without help. You know how to leverage this data to make decisions without getting stuck in analysis paralysis.
  • A "Driver" mindset. You are biased toward action, a great collaborator, a master disambiguator/simplifier, and constantly pushing toward clarity and delivery
  • Grittiness. You never hesitate to roll up your sleeves and tackle something hands-on.
  • A high bar across the board. From your contributions to the people you work with, to the products you work on.
