About the Role
As the Merchant Operations Lead for South Africa and Kenya, you will play a key role in shaping and executing the strategy for merchant quality, onboarding, growth, education, and compliance across Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). You'll lead a team of operations and logistics managers and analysts, ensuring our restaurant and retail partners have the best possible experience on Uber Eats. Your work will directly impact the platform's success by driving operational excellence, optimizing processes, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to scale merchant operations efficiently.

What You'll Do
- Define and execute the Merchant Operations strategy for SSA, ensuring alignment with business objectives and driving long-term success.
- Champion merchant quality and growth, key pillars of Uber Eats' strategy for 2025 and beyond.
- Develop scalable processes to enhance merchant experience, from onboarding to performance optimization.
- Leverage data-driven insights to influence decision-making, improve merchant operations, and optimize processes.
- Lead strategic projects with cross-functional teams (Partner Management, Product, Support, Policy, and Legal) to enhance merchant engagement and operational efficiency.
- Engage with key internal and external stakeholders, ensuring alignment and clear communication of goals, updates, and results.
- Coach, mentor, and grow the Merchant Operations team, fostering a culture of collaboration and high performance.
What You'll Need
- 7+ years of experience in business consulting, operations, supply chain & logistics, banking, or a similar field, preferably in high-growth or tech-driven environments.
- Strong leadership skills, with a proven track record of managing high-performing teams and driving results.
- Excellent stakeholder management, problem-solving, and execution capabilities, with the ability to influence across multiple teams.
- Data-driven mindset, with strong analytical and critical-thinking skills to interpret complex data and drive strategic decisions.
- Proven project and program management experience, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to present insights and recommendations clearly and persuasively to senior leaders.
- A collaborative and entrepreneurial mindset, eager to innovate and create impact in a dynamic marketplace.
Preferred Qualifications
- Honours or master's degree in business, economics, engineering, or a related field.
- Experience managing large teams and fostering a strong team culture.
- Experience working with senior executives or C-suite leaders in a global organization.
- SQL experience is an advantage.
