About the Role
Uber is looking for a leader who can take charge of safety across France, Northern Europe & Benelux to ensure that we are the safest and most trusted platform for our users, government, and the public. This role calls for a combination of deep operational skills to get great work done, the innovation and creative thinking required to develop outside-the-box solutions, and the emotional intelligence needed to lead in a fast-paced business and inspire people to action. You should be comfortable in an "all hands on deck" environment, love solving problems, thrive in a hyper-growth culture, and be passionate about the safety of people and the cities in which we operate.
The Head of Safety will work with senior operations and cross-functional leadership to lead the strategy for safe growth in France, Northern Europe & Benelux. You'll be the trusted safety advisor to the business, focusing on proactive risk management, a strong safety culture, and rigorous operations execution and monitoring in a fast-paced environment.

This is the ideal role for someone who has exposure to safety, operations or risk management, experience in solving challenging problems in a large, complex business, and who is obsessed with data and insights, experimenting and iterating to achieve operational excellence and 'Uber' quality throughout the customer experience. This is where problem-solving and creativity meet leadership and execution head-on.
What You'll Do
- Develop and Execute Safety Strategy: Shape and execute the safety strategy for the region. Co-create the safety vision and roadmap with GMs, and deliver transformational projects informed by data and insights. Transform big-picture ideas into actionable steps with rapid timelines. Ensure Uber's Safety Management System (SMS) is effectively operationalized and fit for purpose.
- Leadership and Influence: Engage and influence stakeholders at all levels to achieve shared safety and operational objectives. Shape the future of safety in your region by defining or integrating industry best practices. Drive a strong safety culture among key regional stakeholders through strong relationships and visibility.
- Build Policies and Processes: Develop safety solutions, policies, and processes to enhance safety performance and achieve local business objectives. Drive continuous improvement by identifying trends and mitigating key safety issues. Implement, monitor, and evaluate policies for incident prevention, investigation, and accountability, ensuring all safety processes are efficient and effective.
- External Relationships: Build strong relationships with external stakeholders and non-governmental organizations to raise safety standards for the industry
- Innovation in Safety: Launch new in-app safety products and partnerships to prevent incidents and address public safety challenges. Influence future product development and foster a safety-centric culture. Actively channel insights to central teams and advocate for scaled solutions.
- Talent Development: Nurture and develop team talent, ensuring a high-performing Safety Team. Participate in special projects and assignments as necessary. Allocate resources effectively to support safety initiatives and operations.
- Collaboration: Collaborate closely with stakeholders across local, regional, and global teams. Embed safety into all local planning and MBRs, ensuring geographic safety strategy is cross-functionally aligned with appropriate dependencies and timelines.
What You'll Need
- Proven Experience: Experience in consulting, business management in operations, strategy, safety, compliance, technology, risk management, or a similar area.
- Leadership Capability: Proven experience in building and leading high-performing teams. Adept at motivating people, drawing out the best in them, and helping develop the next generation of leaders at Uber .
- Problem-Solving and Communication: Ability to tackle and simplify complex problems and effectively communicate the path forward to various stakeholders.
- Stakeholder Management: Experience in leading, coaching, and influencing stakeholders; being a trusted advisor to senior leadership, ideally in a fast-growth environment.

- Data-Driven Decision-Making: Strong business acumen and analytical thinking to assess process performance and viability through data-driven decision-making.
- Hands-on Approach: Comfortable rolling up your sleeves and getting into the details, whether configuring operations around a new product deployment or providing sound judgment on a complex safety case. Attention to detail and the ability to work on multiple projects in parallel without compromising quality.
- Team Player: Attributes to thrive and succeed in a global matrixed organization. Comfortable working with functional colleagues in operations, policy, communications, and legal teams in your subregions, as well as collaborating with colleagues in safety and product within EMEA or the US.

- Compliance and Regulatory Understanding: Ensure safety-regulatory and compliance requirements are understood and met. Stay updated on the latest industry safety best practices and regulatory compliance to maintain high operational standards.
