About The Role

Uber is looking for a dynamic Director of Regional Safety to lead our safety team across the EMEA region. This is a unique chance to spearhead a cross-functional team that champions safety, one of Uber's core values, across various lines of business.

Our goal is to become the undisputed leader in safety within the transportation and delivery industry. To achieve this, we need someone with extensive experience in safety or risk assessment programs, complex, scaled operations, and team leadership. You will work with senior stakeholders across product, engineering, data science, operations, policy, communications, legal, and marketing to drive improved safety outcomes.

  • Strategy: Develop and drive a comprehensive safety strategy across all lines of business, including ridesharing and delivery. Stay ahead of industry trends and identify opportunities to enhance safety measures.
  • Leadership: Lead and motivate a high-performing team, working closely with regional business leadership to launch new features and products while incorporating safety principles.
  • Operations: Drive operational excellence by implementing and optimizing safety programs and initiatives. Continuously improve risk management across all aspects of our business.
  • Stakeholder Management: Engage with senior business leaders to keep them informed of critical safety risks and ensure appropriate mitigation measures are prioritized and resourced. Collaborate with various teams across Uber, including product, marketing, policy, operations, and legal, to develop safety solutions.
  • Communication: Communicate clear, compelling stories out of complex issues and analysis to influence discussions at the highest levels. Align partners and teams with conflicting agendas.

What You'll Need:

  • 12+ years of experience, with 5+ years in a role leading safety programming or risk management in a company with an established safety culture.
  • Strong understanding of business operations and the ability to navigate competing pressures.
  • Inclusive leader with a track record of mentoring and encouraging team members.
  • Practical expertise in risk management frameworks and their application.
  • Ability to thrive under pressure in a fast-paced, unstructured environment.
  • Experience in planning, setting metrics, and roadmap development.
  • Cross-functional collaboration experience.
  • Proficiency in data-driven analysis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in both large organizations and smaller, scrappier businesses.
  • Proven ability to design processes without a prescribed template.
  • Demonstrated ability to attract and retain diverse talent.
