About the Role

We are currently searching for a Counsel, Safety who will continue to help us build effective safety policies and scale risk mitigation efforts globally, for all of Uber. This position will report to the Senior Director of Safety, and the role will be based in Uber's San Francisco or Chicago office. This is a great opportunity to contribute to and make a positive impact on Uber's goal of Standing for Safety.

What You'll Do

  • Work directly with Uber's Safety Team and global, regional, and local operations teams to shape effective policies and standards to address safety risks.
  • Advise on safety messaging, campaigns, and partnerships, as well as policy development and implementation.
  • Draft and review contracts and agreements related to partnerships with NGOs and other organizations.
  • Provide legal support on safety matters for Uber's delivery business.
  • Coordinate legal advice across diverse disciplines and geographies and seek to harmonize and improve inconsistencies.
  • Develop high-impact awareness, training, and playbooks for internal client groups to scale the impact of critical legal advice.
  • Deliver effective and practical compliance counseling and advice.

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum of five (5) years of legal experience in private practice and/or in-house.
  • J.D. and license to practice law in at least one state.
  • Open to traveling both domestically and internationally.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least two (2) years of in-house tech experience is highly preferred.
  • Experience with marketing, litigation, transactions, and product liability a bonus!
  • History of driving efficient and strategic use of resources, including technical groups, in-house counsel, vendors, and outside counsel.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and highly collaborative with both business leaders and legal groups, with a strong ability to build relationships, gain credibility, and partner across functions to build consensus.
  • Confidence and flexibility to operate in a fast-paced, constantly evolving environment.
  • Self-motivation with a strong affinity for vision setting, strategic problem solving, and driving action.
  • Excellent business judgment and great communication skills.
  • Passionate about your work and a desire to have a big impact.
  • Embody the highest standards of integrity, ethics, and accountability.

For Chicago, IL-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$178,000 per year - USD$198,000 per year.

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$198,000 per year - USD$220,000 per year.
