Position Summary:

Trupanion is seeking an experienced, dynamic and customer-focused DevOps Manager to lead our DevOps team in managing and enhancing our Microsoft Azure-based infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Microsoft technologies and a proven track record of implementing and maintaining robust DevOps practices in an Azure environment.

The goal of the DevOps team is to provide smooth, predictable flows of working software from concept to release. In addition, the team is expected to design and create short feedback loops to provide fast continual feedback of these mechanisms to ensure deployment correctness and efficiency. As the DevOps Manager, you will report to the VP of IT Operations and have direct partnerships with Infrastructure and InfoSec, giving you the support you and your team need for success as you partner with development to meet business needs.

What you will do:

Team Management:

  • Lead and mentor a team of highly-skilled DevOps engineers, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture focused on continuous improvement and innovation.

Azure Infrastructure Management:

  • Utilise Terraform to design, implement, and maintain highly available and scalable infrastructure solutions on Microsoft Azure.
  • Ensure the reliability, security, and performance of our Azure-based systems and services.
  • Manage Azure subscriptions, resources, and access controls to optimise cost efficiency and compliance.

Continuous Integration and Deployment (CI/CD):

  • Establish and maintain automated CI/CD pipelines for deploying applications and infrastructure changes.
  • Implement best practices for version control, build automation, and release management using Azure DevOps Services to meet regulatory compliance needs.

Monitoring and Incident Response:

  • Partner with the Infrastructure team to refine and implement monitoring solutions to proactively detect and respond to infrastructure and application issues.
  • Lead incident response efforts, including root cause analysis, mitigation strategies, and post-incident reviews.

Security and Compliance:

  • Collaborate with the InfoSec team to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations, such as SoX, NYDFS and GDPR.
  • Implement security standard processes and controls to protect sensitive data and infrastructure assets.

Documentation and Knowledge Sharing:

  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for infrastructure configurations, processes, and procedures.
  • Promote knowledge sharing and cross-training within the DevOps team and with other groups.

Qualifications:

Experience:

  • Previous experience in a DevOps or infrastructure engineering role, with solid experience in a leadership capacity.
  • Experience working in a regulated industry, such as healthcare or financial services.

What you'll bring:

  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Windows Server, Entra ID, and Azure services (VMs, App Services, Azure SQL, AKS, etc.).
  • Hands-on experience with infrastructure as code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or ARM templates.
  • Deep understanding of CI/CD principles and experience with tools like Azure DevOps Pipelines, Jenkins, or GitLab CI.
  • Microsoft certifications such as Azure Administrator Associate or Azure Solutions Architect Expert.
  • Familiarity with containerisation technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) and microservices architecture.
  • Knowledge of scripting languages (PowerShell, Python) for automation and orchestration tasks.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving technical issues.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with multi-functional teams.

Education, Registration & Certification:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent work experience)

Compensation:

  • The annual salary ange for this position is £80,000 -£100,000 on a full-time schedule.
  • Along with base salary, Trupanion employees may be eligible for monthly bonuses.
  • We want all employees to be invested in Trupanion's success, so we grant Restricted Stock Units to all new team members. Our new hire grants vest over 4 years.
