What You Will Do
As a Hardware Test Engineer with Trimble, you will test and troubleshoot systems and equipment used in developing handheld devices with the Mobile Computing Solutions division.
You will work with the development and test engineers on NPI (New Product Introduction) activities to perform test validation procedures and reporting of test results. This also includes actively improving methods for existing test procedures and introducing new procedures.

You will be exposed to leading-edge technologies, both in the products themselves and with the test equipment. The team is currently implementing 5G WWAN mobile broadband data into products, and we have the latest 5G Cellular test set to match.
Predominately this position focuses on the RF performance of the equipment under test. Testing the functionality and interoperability of GNSS, WLAN, BT, WWAN, and other Radio subsystems. This position will also involve general Hardware testing of the functionality and performance of the equipment for the rugged environments in which it is deployed. Software automation of instruments is also employed for long repetitive testing.
Trimble MCS in Christchurch has positioned itself as a center of excellence for RF design and testing abilities, for our very heavy RF-centric products. This position would ideally suit a very practical and "willing to give anything a go" type of person.
This will involve:
- Performing tests and utilising diagnostic programs as required
- Documentation of test results
- Reporting test failures/issues using the JIRA automation reporting tool
- Actively looking to improve and document existing test procedures and introduce new procedures.
- Working with engineers to isolate the root cause of defects
- Providing technical support for test procedures and root cause analysis of test results
- Willingness to undertake outdoor, physical work as and when required
As well as possessing excellent technical writing skills, good verbal communication, high attention to detail, and the ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment as a proven team player, you should be able to bring the following:
- Demonstrable knowledge and experience with the HW and RF systems of modern computing platforms built for Windows and Android operating systems
- Experience with NPI (New Product Introduction) process and activities
- Ability to follow written test procedures precisely
- Ability to fully document test procedures and test reports
- Familiar with Google Productivity Tools such as Docs, Sheets, and Slides
- Solid analytical and problem-solving skills.
