Who we're looking for

Toyota's Unit Engineering Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Engineer to support production/engineering operations in the Assembly Shop.

This role's main responsibility is to support all aspects of assembly engineering, ensuring hoshin activity is implemented to achieve KPIs for safety, quality, cost, productivity, and human resource development.

Ownership that Unit is a Tier 1 supplier ensuring no defects are shipped to customer plants.

Consistent focus on continuous improvement in the processes to achieve KPI results.

Commitment to 3-pillar production methods: Standardized Work, Process Point Management, & Ownership Maintenance.

Commitment to establishing, maintaining, and improving 4S+S in the Unit plant, and in personal work areas.

Openness and enthusiasm for digitalization (DX) efforts to establish Unit as a digital factory.

Strong dedication to environmental impact reduction activities.

This position is based in San Antonio, TX. The selected candidate will be expected to reside within commutable distance of this location.

What you'll be doing

  • Ensure rear axle assembly meets drawing specifications.
  • Assist in setup of plant/shop facilities in Unit-Assembly from the initial construction to operational readiness.
  • Lead tracking, communication, and support of engineering changes affecting Unit's Assembly shop
  • Engage in 3-pillar production methods: Standardized Work, Process Point Management, & Ownership Maintenance.
  • Utilizing line side troubleshooting tools to lead and manage engineering impact items effectively.
  • Design and procure tools and equipment for the assembly process.
  • Engaging with employees to cultivate trust-based relationships and foster a collaborative work environment.
  • Leading and supporting process improvement initiatives to enhance workflow and productivity.
  • Maintaining a strong presence on the shop floor to stay informed of issues and developments.
  • Managing and overseeing multiple engineering tasks and projects simultaneously, ensuring timely and successful completion.
  • Assisting in the creation of presentations and analyses as required for clear and effective communication.
  • Maintaining and improving processes and systems for tracking tool quality information, contributing to continuous improvement.
  • Assisting production and maintenance groups in resolving both technical and non-technical issues, ensuring smooth operations.
  • Collaborating with quality departments and other production shops to improve internal quality and process ergonomics.
  • Developing strategies and action plans to achieve Hoshin targets, aligning with organizational objectives.
  • Resolving field issues and developing countermeasures.

What you bring

  • Engineering Bachelor's degree or minimum of 5 Years of equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 2 Years of Assembly Engineering Experience or Heavy Manufacturing experience.
  • Minimum of 3 Years experience utilizing Microsoft office applications at an Intermediate level.
  • Minimum of 3 years Production Tool and Equipment Mechanical Design or specification Experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years or working knowledge of maintenance or engineering systems
  • Minimum of 1 Year Project Management experience.
  • This position requires driving. A motor vehicle record that's acceptable by company standards is required for this position

Added bonus if you have

  • Minimum of 2 years or working knowledge of Toyota enterprise software systems (examples: SAP, ARS, Cimplicity, Maximo, Etc.)
  • TBP Panel Completion
  • Familiarity with EDC - Equipment Data Collection.
