Who we're looking for

Toyota's One Tech SCaFT Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Design System Manager

The primary responsibility of this role is to lead the design and evolution of a cohesive design system that enhances usability and consistency across the Supply Chain organization, supporting both user and business needs. This role also oversees user research, integrating insights into the design process to drive innovation and operational efficiency.

Reporting to the Senior Manager - Product Development SCaFT, the person in this role will manage the SCaFT department's objective to create a scalable design system that creates amazing user experiences, strengthens brand identity, and supports efficient operations.

What you'll be doing:

  • Leads a team of designers developing and documenting design components, guidelines, and standards that align with the brand and enhance the user experience.
  • Defines and communicates the vision for the design system, ensuring alignment across design, product, and development teams.
  • Leads the user research team and usability testing to gather feedback, iterating on the design system based on insights and user needs.
  • Managing a comprehensive component library, ensuring all design assets are accessible and easy to use by team members.
  • Provides training, mentoring, and supports designers and developers on best practices for using the design system, promoting adoption and consistent usage across the organization.

What you bring:

  • A strong background in product design, UX/UI design, or a similar role, with proven experience in design systems.
  • A robust portfolio showcasing your work with design systems, component libraries, and user-centered design practices.
  • Proficiency in design tools such as Figma, Sketch, and Adobe Creative Suite, and familiarity with front-end technologies (e.g., HTML, CSS, JavaScript) is a plus.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to articulate design decisions and engage with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen eye for detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality design work.
  • Experience in maintaining and versioning design systems, including rolling out and migrating products into a cohesive design system.
  • Expertise in leading designers to a design system and supporting cross-functional adoption.
  • Familiarity with conducting workshops and meetings to align stakeholders on design system needs and updates.
  • Knowledge of industry trends, design innovations, and emerging technologies to keep the design system current and relevant.

Added bonus if you have:

  • Bachelor's in Graphic Design, Interaction Design, Product Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), or a related field.
  • Data Analysis and Research Interpretation: Using analytics tools to evaluate user feedback and component performance.
  • High-Performance System Knowledge: Experience working with large-scale or enterprise-level design systems to support complex, multi-team ecosystems.
