The primary responsibility of this role is to be the technology leader responsible for application development and support. The North America Quality (NAQ) group supports platforms across warranty, product quality, supplier quality, and service support.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this role will support the OneTech NAQ Systems & Technology Platforms objective to plan, advise, and provide internal consulting services to develop and apply technology solutions that align with business goals and objectives.

What you'll be doing

  • Work closely with Principal Engineer II to understand enterprise and portfolio standards applicable to solution design commencement.
  • Create proof of concept and prototype development to verify feasibility of design pattern(s).
  • Instruct the development teams on best practices of implementing the proof of concept.
  • Lead multiple development teams in implementation based on business requirements.
  • Create low-level designs using accepted design principles on approved platforms as reviewed by the Principal Engineer II in collaboration with the Enterprise Architecture team.
  • Maintain awareness of technical competencies of the development team members and work with members to improve the close gaps in knowledge and the way of thinking.
  • Set standards for code reviews and framework for solution technical oversight.
  • Perform technical oversight of the solutions vendor teams.
  • Ensure that the solution design and implementation comply with latest security guidelines and work to resolve issues flagged in security scans.
  • Document and review system health with Principal Engineer II on a periodic basis:
  • Compliance with enterprise architecture version standards.
  • Compliance with cloud standards.
  • Proactively analyze cloud costs and ensure that cloud configuration is optimized for efficiency as well as costs.
  • Observability and supportability: oversee system health and operational alerts. Ensure that the alerts are categorized, and relevant alerts/errors/warnings are resolved based on priority and severity.
  • Incident Management: lead teams in resolution of highly critical (P1/P2) system outages for a prompt service restoration. Lead problem investigations and implementation of recommendations/learnings that follow.

What you bring

  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or related field; or equivalent professional work experience.
  • Proven years of experience in software engineering and/or architect roles across multi-year projects involving large scale system development.
  • Demonstrated functional work experience with AWS Cloud technologies: serverless (AWS Lambda), NoSQL, Containers (ECS, EKS), Quicksight, and/or Aurora Postgres RDS
  • Demonstrated functional work experience with Java, NodeJS, Springboot, AngularUI, GraphQL, and/or Web Services (SOAP and REST).
  • Demonstrated experience with DevOps methodology, pipeline tools, and the Scrum framework.
  • Exposure to data analytics products like Microsoft PowerBI, AWS Quicksight and/or Tableau.
  • Experience in application production support, ensuring SLAs are adhered to and upgrades occur as needed.

Non-Technical

  • Experience using written and verbal communication skills effectively, with the ability to create and present concepts, influence and persuade the business, and make recommendations to management.
  • Experience providing guidance to application support and/or project implementation vendors.
  • Program and/or project management experience
  • Experience working with/in Agile teams

Added bonus if you have

  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect (Professional), Certified Developer (Associate) and related AWS Professional level technical certifications.
  • Experience with Site Reliability Engineering practices and concepts in application support.
  • Automotive warranty and claims experience.
  • Experience working with legacy Java EJB applications.
  • Familiarity with Informatica, Kafka, MQ, rules engines
