Who we're looking for

Operational controls, risk and compliance management are the foundation to operational excellence. The role of the Operations Manager - Compliance and Controls works within the First Line of Defense to develop and ensure controls and process disciplines are rigorously maintained and continually enhanced through risk assessments, controls testing, quality assurance, root cause analysis and metrics reporting.

This position leads and manages a team of operations analysts tasked with driving solutions for stronger process documentation and controls related to banking operations areas including Mortgage Lending and Servicing Operations, Commercial Lending Operations, and Deposit Operations.

Key activities include championing the design of efficient and effective internal controls, collaborati9ng with the operations teams to minimize risk exposure, leading team to execute on self- assessments and identify gaps, improving process documentation, facilitating risk and compliance remediation, and supporting internal and external audits/examinations.

What you'll be doing

• Anticipate first line business needs and proactively identify opportunities to strengthen the operational control environment through actionable insights, while balancing risk mitigation with customer service considerations.
• Facilitate the early identification of gaps and drive solutions focused on minimizing audit findings that result in issuance of corrective action plans caused by inadequate internal processes, systems, or human errors.
• Work as part of the Operations Controls management team to design the department's controls testing methodology, establish annual review scopes, and develop metrics for reporting results to senior management. Build control testing steps for assigned areas, ensuring compliance with regulatory and operational risk controls standards.
• Manage assigned staff to ensure timely execution of control review assignments and deliverables. Partner with first line business unit leaders and fulfilment vendor partners to review testing results and implement any required changes.
• Responsible for the development of a procedure tracking and distribution framework for banking operations areas. Supervise staff assigned to write procedures and ensure documentation produced accurately reflects control steps, policy, and regulatory requirements.
• Effectively manage team to serve as the key point of contact for audit requests for the banking operations areas. Manage assignment of specific item requests to the appropriate operations area(s) and ensure delivery to requestor(s) by the due date.

Qualifications/ What you bring
• Bachelor's degree required or equivalent experience
• 5+ years of relevant work experience (in similar field and/or industry)
• Intermediate Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Word and Excel
• Advanced knowledge of lending and deposit operations management and compliance controls. Completion of CRCM level coursework is a plus.
• Self-starter with the ability to challenge and influence, build trusted relationships, deal constructively with conflict, problem solve/troubleshoot issues for themselves and others, and adapt to an environment involving multiple and simultaneous deliverables
• Excellent organizational, communication, documentation, and project management skills
