The primary responsibility of this role is to the technical portion of Interior/Exterior accessory development and coordination with other divisions of Toyota and suppliers to meet necessary quality, performance, and departmental objectives.

Reporting to the Interior/Exterior development manager, the person in this role will support the Service Parts and Accessoriesobjective to the technical portion of Interior/Exterior accessory development and coordination with other divisions of Toyota and suppliers to meet necessary quality, performance, and departmental objectives.

What you'll be doing

  • Work on a team to plan, develop, implement, approve, control, and follow parts through the development life cycle.
  • Review and approve CAD data, drawings, and testing documents. and conduct design reviews before tooling kick-off.
  • Establish evaluation and quality assurance requirements for developed accessories through close coordination with TMC and other key Toyota divisions. Develop testing criteria for new products. Identify, develop, and communicate product specifications to suppliers.
  • Analyze and evaluate accessory products to ensure quality standards and customer needs are met. Perform product evaluations (Fit and Function, benchmarking, etc.) and design reviews on all new products during prototype and pre-production development phases
  • Utilize soft skills to communicate set and manage. Coordinate expectations of internal stakeholders and build consensus. Also expected to work closely with the supply base to achieve objectives.
  • Document and continuously improve processes and procedures for the functional area
  • Use advanced technical knowledge to predict and prevent issues as well as analyze, develop, and implement countermeasures for ongoing issues. Implement lessons learned into current and future design and design guidelines.

What you bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or other technical-related discipline, or equivalent work experience
  • Computer-aided design experience and knowledge to apply tolerance stack up using GD&T or traditional tolerance practices
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal), problem-solving, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with PC software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of CATIA in order to conduct design reviews, and analyze component data from internal sources, as well as, the supply base.
  • Knowledge of general mechanical design principals, and manufacturing principals as well as specific knowledge of plastic components.
  • Working knowledge of Design Review Based on Failure Mode (DRBFM)
  • Professional level experience in an automotive product development environment.
  • Hands-on automotive experience, including the ability to disassemble vehicle components in order to install and evaluate accessories.

What you may bring

  • 5 or more years of experience in automotive product design and development.
  • Proficiency in CATIA to be able to create 2D drawings from 3D CAD data.
  • Proficiency using TMC databases: Ceisar, Terrace, C-VIS, SMS, and processing ECI's.
  • Knowledge of federal regulations specific to the automotive industry (FMVSS), and familiarity with testing methods such as ASTM and SAE.
  • Knowledge of interior trim and fabric manufacturing processes.
