The primary responsibility of this role is to establish and oversee Toyota's regulatory and certification infrastructure for TMNA's new consumer and non-automotive product portfolio.

Reporting to the Senior Manager of New Products Regulatory Implementation, the person in this role will support the Regulatory Implementation department's objective to assure regulatory expertise, compliance validation and certification of TMNA's products that are adjacent to our core vehicles and wholly new to Toyota, such as consumer products.

What you'll be doing

  • Establishing and overseeing regulatory and certification infrastructure for Adjacent and New TMNA products, including but not limited to:
    • Utilizing regulatory, codes & standards knowledge to develop and execute cradle-to-grave processes and infrastructure to assure compliance and certification of core adjacent products (those which are tied and related to vehicles, but not vehicles) and wholly new products, especially consumer products, modeling existing Toyota compliance & cert process portfolio to establish a robust and efficient framework.
    • Serving as a Toyota regulatory Subject Matter Expert (SME), especially for Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) regulations, advising a wide variety of internal stakeholder functions.
    • Collaborating with Toyota's Advanced Product Planning Office and Resident Responsible Engineers (RREs) to provide advice on regulatory challenges of newly proposed and early development products.
    • Collaborating with other Program Managers to align new processes and key milestones of compliance and certification planning with product development schedules and milestones.
    • Creating clear guidelines of applicability for external industry codes and standards including UL, NEC, NFPA, etc.
    • Establishing and leading regulatory, technical, and business relationships with 3rd party certification organizations (e.g., Intertek, TUV, UL, etc.), which provide required assessments, validation, and certification.
    • Developing and maintaining operating procedures and work instructions for critical processes embedded in these new regulatory and certification infrastructure.
    • Coordinating development of regulatory interpretations for applicable products as requested by R&D and new business stakeholders.
    • Closely coordinate with TMNA Legal and Quality Functions, and TMC Regulatory & Certification Division for development activities.

What you bring

  • Bachelor's degree in related Engineering discipline or related field.
  • Minimum 10 years related experience, particularly in a regulatory environment, regulatory agency, AND/OR Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC).
  • Previous knowledge and experience in non-automotive product regulations.
  • Proven project management capabilities with demonstrated process development acumen and related documentation skills.
  • Ability to adhere to milestones with timely completion of reports.
  • Excellent written & verbal communication and negotiation skills.
  • Expertise in MS Office suite, and interest in pursuing further IT/software tools to enhance and automate processes.

Added bonus if you have

  • Experience with 3rd Party "NRTL" Certification of consumer products.
  • Experience with low/no code office automation tools, especially in the MS suite.
  • Previous knowledge and experience in automotive engineering and processes.
  • Master's degree in Business Administration or Engineering.
  • Bilingual skills.
