Toyota's Body Production Engineering Department is looking for a passionate and highly-motivated Innovation Engineer for our technology development group.

The primary responsibility of this role is to develop and prepare innovative technology for our North American manufacturing facilities that strengthen the global competitiveness of Toyota's products.
Reporting to the Body Innovation Manager, the person in this role will support the Body Production Engineering Department's objective to produce the highest quality equipment, on time, at the lowest possible cost.
What you'll be doing
- Maintain and support a safe workplace and culture as a primary responsibility.
- Promote an inclusive and respectful workplace.
- Lead and support technology development and introduction activity.
- Confirm technology and equipment developed in Japan for deployment in North American manufacturing facilities.
- Develop and prepare innovative technology and equipment for North American manufacturing facilities.
- Evaluate materials for joinability (welding, etc) and develop joining methods as needed.
- Perform mechanical testing and other destructive and non-destructive testing. Create test reports as needed. Coordinate and manage outside testing as needed.
- Author standards (such as engineering memos, procedures and training manuals) and serve as a subject matter expert.
- Work closely with our Japan counterparts and North American equipment suppliers to incorporate improvements into existing and new equipment.
- Continuously improve new and existing processes for better safety, quality, productivity, and cost; and continually develop and improve personal and group capabilities.
- Report to management, internal and external, on project status.
What you bring
- Bachelor's Degree (or higher) in Engineering related field and at least 3 years relevant work experience OR 5+ years of equivalent relevant work experience without bachelor's degree
- Manufacturing and/or R&D experience
- Excellent written and verbal skills
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Demonstrable ability to quickly absorb and apply new learnings
- Ability to work up to 40% overtime as needed
- Ability to travel both domestically and internationally
Added bonus if you have
- Master's degree in relevant Engineering discipline
- Knowledge of/experience with automotive metallurgy and material joining theory and methods
- Experience with statistics and experimental testing methods in a lab environment
- Experience with robotics and PLC programming
- Knowledge of electrical, mechanical, or pneumatic systems
- Body Manufacturing experience, especially in a role implementing or maintaining innovative technology at a technical level (such as laser welding, aluminum resistance welding, vision and other process automation, etc.)
- Japanese language written and/or verbal abilities.
