Who we're looking for

Toyota's Integrated Vehicle Systems (IVS) Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Automated Driving Systems (ADS) Systems Development Engineer.

The primary responsibility of this role is to develop systems and applications for future ADAS (Advanced Driver-Assistance) Systems on North American-developed vehicles. (Example activities include: part list issuance, RDDPs, managing supplier and overall system function and performance for applicable vehicle).

Reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager of IVS, the person in this role will support the IVS department's objective.

What you'll be doing

  • Identify customer needs for ADAS through data-driven assessment of technology, market, and social trends. Propose and develop innovative ADAS to commercialize high-value customer needs.
  • Engineer system/functional performance requirements and hardware/software requirements to realize ADAS integration into vehicle platforms. Publish engineering specifications for release to vendors. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to commercialize high quality ADAS into mass production vehicles.
  • Support vehicle development by maintaining system schedules, maintaining open issues, issuing ECI's/RDDP's/PPR, managing suppliers, and managing deliverables to multiple stakeholders.
  • Identify process needs or gaps in existing processes, improve existing processes, create new sustainable standardized processes.
  • Support daily communication with Japanese counterparts to align global activities and drive consensus building.
  • Managing time strategically to balance a variety of project demands, focusing on high-priority tasks first.Overtime 20%

What you bring

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, mechanical engineering, robotics, computer science, or equivalent bachelor's degree.
  • Experience in creating electrical systems drawings, specifications, manuals, wire diagrams, and standards.
  • Experience in developing electronics hardware in design, evaluation, or manufacturing process quality.
  • Experience in supporting electronic parts/product launches at Supplier and Toyota plants.
  • Experience with rapid problem investigation, root-cause investigation, and negotiations with stake-holders.
  • Toyota vehicle development experience in design and/or evaluation
  • Clear and concise presentation skills, both written and oral, with consideration to international audiences.
  • This position requires driving. A motor vehicle record that's acceptable by company standards is required for this position.

What you may bring

  • Master of Science degree in Computer science, Computer engineering, Robotics engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical engineering, or equivalent.
  • Experience supporting vehicle evaluations on proving grounds or on public roads
  • Experience in ADS technologies
  • TBP completed (Toyota Business Practice Training)
  • Experience with OBD (On Board Diagnostic) and CAN (Controller Area Network) tools, diagnoses, trouble shooting
  • Experience in setting up sensors and data acquisition systems on vehicle and/or on a test bench
  • Experience in developing ADS/DAS sensors
  • Experience in testing ADS/DAS, including quantitative performance comparisons against competitors
