About the Team
The CIS (Corporate Information System) Privacy and Security team focuses on building services that serves as a compliant storage foundation of the ByteDance employee and user data. We aim to provide centralized management over data from various sources, and control compliant access to it. The team is focused on but not limited to building a data gateway called StarGate, providing secure and compliant access to the data, auditing the access and gaining insights into the data via a big data processing pipeline.

Internships at TikTok aim to provide students with hands-on experience in developing fundamental skills and exploring potential career paths. A vibrant blend of social events and enriching development workshops will be available for you to explore. Here, you will utilize your knowledge in real-world scenarios while laying a strong foundation for personal and professional growth. This Internship Program runs for 12 weeks beginning in May/June 2025. Successful candidates must be able to commit to one of the following summer internship start dates below:
Monday, May 12
Monday, May 19
Tuesday May 27 (Memorial Day May 26)
Monday, June 9
Monday, June 23

We will prioritize candidates who are able to commit to these start dates. Please state your availability clearly in your resume (Start date, End date).

Candidates can apply to a maximum of two positions and will be considered for jobs in the order you apply. The application limit is applicable to TikTok and its affiliates' jobs globally. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis - we encourage you to apply early.

Online Assessment
Candidates who pass resume evaluation will be invited to participate in TikTok's technical online assessment in HackerRank.

What you will do:
- Assist in analyzing business and product requirements.
- Help design and maintain systems for a data gateway to solve access control over heterogenous requests.
- Support the design and implementation of services that ensure compliant data storage, access control, and auditing.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing an Undergraduate/Graduate/Master in Software Development, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline
- Able to commit to working for 12 weeks during Summer 2025;
- Ability to build and maintain complex systems with strong technical skills.
- Proficient in at least one programming language, with a preference for Golang.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Basic understanding of IAM systems and hands-on experience with RBAC, ABAC, or PBAC systems.
- Experience working on at least one complex system, handling both construction and maintenance.
- Experience in database development and big data modules.
- Understanding of legal and regulatory compliance practices, both domestic and international.
