About the Team
USDS Tech and Product at TikTok provides core product platforms and services with leading infrastructure and applications. Our Data Exchange System team provides support to various business-critical applications. You'll be part of a critical SRE team managing these applications, which control data based on compliance and security policies. In this role, you'll handle complex scaling challenges to ensure the overall uptime, reliability, functionality, and deployments of these applications.
In order to enhance collaboration and cross-functional partnerships, among other things, at this time, our organization follows a hybrid work schedule that requires employees to work in the office 3 days a week, or as directed by their manager/department. We regularly review our hybrid work model, and the specific requirements may change at any time.
About the Role
Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) combines software and systems engineering to build and run large-scale, massively distributed services and infrastructures. As a site reliability engineer in the data platform area, you will have the opportunity to manage the services and infrastructures in one of the largest data platforms in the world. You'll need to ensure the data, services and infrastructures are reliable, fault-tolerant, efficiently scalable and cost-effective. You'll also have the opportunity to design, build and deliver all kinds of systems as a software engineer.
Responsibilities:
- Engage in and improve the whole lifecycle of service, from inception and design, through to deployment, operation and refinement
- Ensure reliable, fault-tolerant, efficiently scalable and cost-effective data, services and infrastructures
- Maintain services by measuring and monitoring availability, latency and overall system health. Practice sustainable incident response and blameless postmortems.
- Establish the best engineering practice for engineers as well as non-technical people
- Design and implement reliable, scalable, robust and extensible big data systems that support core products and business
- Work with internal teams to develop and deploy software/config changes to services.
- Provide operational support for the suite of production systems and services
- Collaborate with external stakeholders/partners in improving efficiency and stability of the services.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- BS or MS degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related areas.
- Experience in one or more programming languages such as Go, Java, C++, Python etc.
- Good problem-solving, analytical thinking capabilities and exceptional attention to details.
- Good communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Expertise in designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems.
- Ability to debug, optimize code, and automate routine tasks.
- Proficiency working with algorithms, data structures and production troubleshooting.
- Expertise in problem solving and analyzing global scale distributed systems.
- Systematic problem-solving approach, coupled with effective communication skills and a sense of drive.

Job Information
[For Pay Transparency] Compensation Description (annually)
The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $119000 - $237500 annually.
Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.
Benefits may vary depending on the nature of employment and the country work location. Employees have day one access to medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) savings plan with company match, paid parental leave, short-term and long-term disability coverage, life insurance, wellbeing benefits, among others. Employees also receive 10 paid holidays per year, 10 paid sick days per year and 17 days of Paid Personal Time (prorated upon hire with increasing accruals by tenure).
