Responsibilities
The Senior Payments Compliance Counsel will be part of the Global Legal Compliance Payments team reporting into the Global Legal Compliance organization. It is one of the centres of excellence within GLC. We provide strategic guidance and leadership regarding all payments related matters of TikTok globally in order to ensure a consistent global approach towards payments, payments solutions, and money transmission licensing matters
Responsibilities
- Counsel product and broad cross-functional teams on a wide range of legal issues (payments, virtual currency, money transmission, financial services, consumer protection, and other relevant laws) regarding existing and planned products, including e-commerce

- Manage local outside counsel to secure and provide advice regarding the launch of payments products and features across various geographies in North America
- Identify and advise on risks arising from payments regulatory regimes and provide practical solutions to address risks identified and business needs
- Collaborate with subject matter experts within the legal team to ensure comprehensive and consistent legal risk mitigation strategies
- Work closely with compliance, product, policy, finance, security, and payments team.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree and Juris Doctorate from an ABA accredited law school (or foreign equivalent) with membership in good standing in a US State Bar
- Extensive experience advising technology companies as in-house or outside counsel on payments, in-app or virtual currency, and consumer protection matters
- Experience advising business teams on issues involving payment products'Strong familiarity with FinCEN, AML, OFAC, and other state and federal regulations related to payments
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working independently and cross-functionally within a global tech environment
- Familiarly with analogous regulations in Canada
- Prior experience related to a user-generated content platform
- Comfort working in a global environment with colleagues at all levels in various time zones in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong documentation skills
- Self-starter with a sense of humor, positive attitude, and passion for the creator economy
Job Information
[For Pay Transparency] Compensation Description (annually)
The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $228000 - $357390 annually.
Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.
Benefits may vary depending on the nature of employment and the country work location. Employees have day one access to medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) savings plan with company match, paid parental leave, short-term and long-term disability coverage, life insurance, wellbeing benefits, among others.
