About the TikTok User Growth department
TikTok's User Growth is a cross-functional department (engineering, data science, recommendation/algorithm, product, marketing, operations) applying a data-driven growth approach. We work closely to improve the whole TikTok user growth funnel: branding, acquisition, onboarding, engagement, and retention, across a variety of products.
About the Innovative Growth organization
We own multiple product surfaces to serve TikTok's diverse content to different users and usage scenarios, including TikTok Webapp (www.tiktok.com ), Vehicle Infotainment Systems (Tesla, etc.), and TikTok Tablet apps. We are continually expanding to new surfaces. Together they form an important traffic matrix for TikTok to keep growing its user base and user consumption.
As a senior frontend software engineer in the TikTok User Growth - Innovative Growth org, you will:
- Work with product managers and data scientists to analyze product and user data, and together propose product iteration ideas based on data insights
- Based on product roadmap and priorities, design highly performant and scalable technical architecture and implement them as frameworks, libraries, or automated processes/guarding mechanisms on ci, etc. Lead other engineers to implement them, and drive adoptions in-team and cross-team, to improve engineering efficiency, reliability, and consistency
- Implement and troubleshoot video playback features and optimize performances - crucial for short video viewing and skipping experiences
- Optimize web performance to ensure a fast and seamless user experience in browsers running on potentially low-end devices
- Stay up-to-date with the latest web technologies and trends, and educate engineers and PMs about new product possibilities enabled by these new technologies
- Use full-stack web technology (Node.js, React, TypeScript, HTML, CSS) to develop MVPs and run experiments to validate ideas and iterate quickly, leveraging new technologies, and tools when appropriate
- Lead the conception, estimation, and prioritization of product requirements in the engineering team
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Expert in JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. Experience with modern frontend frameworks such as React, Vue, or Angular. We use React.
- Expert in video playback technologies such as HTML5 Video and Media Source Extensions and optimization - especially in reducing time to next video play
- Expert in web performance optimization, especially in reducing input latency and LCP
- Strong problem-solving and debugging skills; Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- UI/UX instincts and knowledge
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with developing web-based smart/connected TV/Vehicle/Appliances apps, using DOM-based or Canvas-based solutions
- Experience with cross-platform solutions such as React Native, Flutter
- Experience with WASM for performance and cross-platform related usages
- Experience with WebRTC or other real-time video technologies
- Experience with server-side rendering
- Experience with Webpack, Babel, or other build tools
- Experience with unit testing frameworks
- Experience with cloud-based infrastructure and services
- Experience in Growth Engineering or Growth Hacking; have a successful user growth track record
- Data analytics mindset and skills: EDA using Python (pandas, Jupyter Notebook), BI tools, SQL, Hive, building data pipelines

Job Information
[For Pay Transparency] Compensation Description (annually)
The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $194000 - $355000 annually.
Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.
Benefits may vary depending on the nature of employment and the country work location. Employees have day one access to medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) savings plan with company match, paid parental leave, short-term and long-term disability coverage, life insurance, wellbeing benefits, among others. Employees also receive 10 paid holidays per year, 10 paid sick days per year and 17 days of Paid Personal Time (prorated upon hire with increasing accruals by tenure).
