Team Introduction
The Tax team works with other corporate functions on tax advisory, planning, structuring, and tax controversy. We ensure compliance with direct (corporate income tax) and indirect tax (sales and use tax and property tax) and solve tax related issues.
Position Summary
As an Indirect Tax Lead (GST) - Oceania within the TikTok Tax Team, you will be part of a team that spans the Americas, Europe, Asia and Oceania. You will have the opportunity to work closely with our Accounting, Finance and Legal teams.
You will be part of the team that looks after the tax obligations of TikTok in the Oceania Region (Australia, New Zealand, Pacific Islands) and work with stakeholders from different business areas within the wider TikTok Group.

This role is based in Sydney, Australia. This role requires being in the office in Sydney's CBD for 3 days a week.
Responsibilities
In this role, you will be a valued local member of the Oceania tax team, mainly looking after TikTok's indirect tax obligations in Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands. Your main responsibilities include:
- Preparing advice in relation to Australian, New Zealand, and Pacific Islands indirect taxes to the business and on the indirect tax outcomes of commercial transactions.
- Managing preparation of Business Activity Statements/GST returns for the Oceania region.
- Driving efficiency and improving end-to-end tax processes and controls, including assisting with tax technology implementations.
- Collaborating with tax teams in other jurisdictions on indirect tax issues in the Oceania region, and on product/business launches.
- Supporting statutory audits and finalization of financial statements.
- Assisting in data preparation and collation for tax reviews, audits and litigation.
- Monitoring developments in indirect tax legislation in the Oceania region and communicating the impact of these developments on current or future commercial transactions to business teams.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- More than 5 years of working experience in indirect tax compliance and advisory experience at a Big 4 or large mid-tier firm or large multinational business in Australia and/or New Zealand, with a professional tax qualification, CA/CPA or legal background.
- Expertise in GST (including international GST) across both business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-consumer (B2C) contexts.
- Be meticulous with a strong attention to detail, and be committed to delivering high quality work.
- Have strong problem-solving skills and a mindset that always looks to improve and find the best solutions even in the midst of the challenges of a dynamic, fast-paced work environment.
- The ability to build and maintain collaborative working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
- The ability to communicate clearly both in writing and in person as part of the role will include working with global partners in different time zones and cultures.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with indirect tax in relation to digital economy and e-commerce businesses is highly desirable.
- Experience with employment taxes is highly preferred.
- Experience with justified trust compliance and assurance programs is highly preferred.
