About the Team
The Global Privacy & Regulatory Affairs legal team manages and oversees privacy and regulatory matters and initiatives pertaining to Bytedance's global operations. The team works cross-functionally with multiple stakeholders around the world. You will work in a fast-paced, challenging, and rewarding environment where your analytical, organizational and interpersonal skills will play an impactful role in tackling some of the most complex, interesting, and cutting-edge issues at the intersection of privacy and technology. We are seeking highly motivated professionals to join our team.
Responsibilities
- Lead privacy analysis and assessments of the Company's products throughout development cycle to ensure compliance with local and global privacy and data protection laws;
- Assist in setting up or improving cross-functional Privacy Programs, with a special attention on company-wide efforts and governance related to machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI);
- Work with legal counsel, information security, and product teams to develop and implement global privacy and standards, including those stemming from new and impending AI-related laws;
- Coordinate and drive cross-stakeholder alignment regarding implementation of privacy requirements and proposed remediations;
- Support data governance with respect to data acquisition, including all policies and matters related to the use of data to support AI;
- Proactively implement changes to product assessment process in anticipation of regulatory and business developments.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Significant experience working in an in-house legal department of a tech company or in a reputable law firm with substantial experience in tech, media and telecomm work
- Enjoys being challenged, is adaptable and able to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment
- Strong drafting, presentation and communication skills
- J.D. degree from ABA accredited law school (or foreign equivalent) with membership in good standing in a US state bar
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience, and more importantly, personal interest in AI, innovative technologies, social media, and all things digital
- Experience with analyzing products to determine their compliance with applicable data protection regulations and principles, and working with product counsel, product managers, and engineers on implementing privacy requirements

Job Information
[For Pay Transparency] Compensation Description (annually)
The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $180500 - $303240 annually.
Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.
